Re: Fw: An MS Word 2007 Question

Ann Byrne

Below is a post from Brian Lee that corrected this problem for me:

You might want to check under the view tab and make sure zoom is set at 100
percent. Use Alt followed by W to move on to the View tab and then use tab
key across the bottom part of the ribbon. Tab one time past the Zoom button
and you should find a button labeled 100%. Press spacebar on that button.
Go back under the view tab and use tab key to the button labeled "one page"
and press spacebar. Check the document after doing those things to see if
it still jumps pages.

Subject: An MS Word 2007 Question

Hello, folks.

I am on travel, and am using my University laptop while working with some
documents related to my new job as a University Department Head.

I have a question that I'm hoping someone can help me with:
Currently, when I read through a document, I must manually change
pages when I come to the next page. And, when I do, it puts me at the
bottom of the next page, rather than at the top. My sighted wife says that the pages appear next to each other in the document, rather than from the top to the bottom of the entire document in consecutive order.
How can I get Jaws to
read the document without having to go through the manual page change?

I'm using Windows 7, Microsoft Word in Office 2007, and Jaws
13.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

Re: Glad to Hear

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Sometimes it seems like, with JAWS, it is one step forward and two steps back.
Case in point.
Reading a track change document with JAWS 13, there is no indication of what was inserted or what was deleted. A critical issue.
Read the same exact document with JAWS 12 (with the same track change settings in effect in both Word and JAWS) and everything is announced perfectly.
I confirmed just today with Freedom Scientific that JAWS 13 broke track change recognition. It is partly fixed in the most recent build and is supposed to be completely fixed with the next build.
Don't physicians have to take an oath, the Hippocratic Oath, that, at least, they will do no harm?
I wish programmers took such an oath and were prohibited from releasing any product with any new feature until it was verified that no damage was done.
Continuing the analogy, when a physician cuts off the wrong leg he gets sued. So, ...

Folks,

You may or may not have been attempting to send mail to one of these lists
since Sunday. Apparently, while things were busy blowing up on this end, the
list software decided it would be awesome to take a small vacation. I've
since ended that vacation, and if I didn't break half the server in the
process, you should be getting this mail. Unfortunately, due to the nature
of email you'll need to most likely resend any messages you've sent to the
list. But when you do, they will go through.

JAWS 14 FSCast

Adrian Spratt

Thanks to Dean Martineau's newsletter today, I learn that there is an FSCast
on JAWS 14. I am in the school that wishes FS would fix problems rather than
add new features, but the ones in JAWS 14 look very promising.

FS is making available Vocalizer voices, still being developed by Nuance.
(Neither Eloquence nor RealSpeak has been upgraded in years.) Based on the
FSCast demonstration, they sound more pleasing and appear more responsive to
commands than RealSpeak. There may finally be a viable alternative to
Dectalk Express, which I have clung to through the years.

The demonstration of JAWS 14 and Windows 8 is also encouraging, and FS has
made a change to how JAWS handles Outlook messages that might finally
convince me to upgrade from 2003.

The improvements to Text Analyzer look as though they'll simplify the visual
aspects of editing documents.

or, go to www.tinyurl.com, paste that 128-character URL into the box,

Links created by TinyUrl are always 26 characters long, so should work

I suspect it's not JAWS. More likely the sound card mixer was shut off
(muted) or disabled for JAWS speech.

Does Narrator work? If so, use it to set JAWS to use the default sound card
again, and it might clear up the problem.

Steps:
Insert+J
Utilities
Sound Card
Check the appropriate choice

Two close friends of mine after some sort of either windows 7 update
or Java update, has had it happen where Eloquence for jaws was
broken, one, in fact where she couldn't even restart her computer.
The other, even after we installed jaws from the downloaded archive
with the command line switches, /type repair, did not solve the
eloquence problem. It would speak during the install, however even
after the install, nothing is heard from eloquence. We un installed
jfw, (only leaving the configuration files) and re-installed, with
the same result.
Any ideas at all will be appreciated. In fact the person who did not
have an external synthesizer cannot even start her computer because
of some sort of eloquence corruption referring to a *..dll which the
program claims cannot be found so it cannot run. My other friend has
window-eyes and her jfw will run her triple talk, but not eloquence.
thanks!

How to use Outlook 2007's scheduling assistant

Delaunay Christophe <christophe.delaunay@...>

Hi all,

A sighted colleague attempted to show me how to schedule a meeting with others when I only can know thether they will be busy of not.

First, I had to begin with defining a new apointment. I defined a priori the start time and end time, gave a subject and all that stuff. Then, I clicked on the "scheduling assistant" tab of the lower ribbon.

I could then see the button "Add attendee" and use this button to add all the colleagues I wanted for this meeting.

But the problem was now: The sighted colleague saw all the attendees in some sort of table. The number of lines of the "table" was the number of attendees plus one. On each line except the last one, (click here to add an attendee), had on the left, a checkbox checked, (required), or unchecked, (optional). Then, the name of the attendee and then, blue or white areas showing whether the attendee is busy or not at different times of the day. Problem: jaws only shows the left part of the "table", ending at the attendee names. Is there a way to let it show the times at which the attendee is busy or not?

Is there another way to use the scheduling assistant with jaws please?

Many thanks in advance. Have a nice day. Christophe Delaunay

First time firefox user, couple of questions

Nickus de Vos <bigboy529@...>

Hi all
I started to use firefox a couple of days ago and I'm planning to
permanently move away from IE. I think I have the latest version of
firefox because I just downloaded it from the website the other day, I
also have windows 7 with jaws13.

I just have a couple of things still bothering me. Sometimes I load a
page but it's as if it's not yet loaded or jaws can't get focus. I'm
at the top of the page and it reads the heading of the page but I am
unable to arrow down, refreshing the page sometimes doesn't even work
and I also tried refreshing the jaws screen with jaws plus escape. I
also want to know if there is a quick way to switch between tabs if
you have more than one open at a time, and generally if there's any
other settings which would help jaws and firefox work better together.

Frame Viewer

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

I have a Web application that I have to use 90% of my day -- to save, search for, and retrieve documents. It runs with IE 8.
There is a rectangular space I'd like to hear read automatically or upon press of a keystroke.
I've successfully used Frame Viewer in standard client applications.
I've never had much luck with Web applications, including this one.
Perhaps I'm just doing it wrong when it comes to Web applications.
I also have Hot Spot Clicker, though it won't work until our IT Department figures out what to do about its security lock down.
