insert+1 (on the numbers row) toggles keyboard help on and off. after turning keyboard help on, press any key or combination and jaws will tell you what it does.

How do I know when windows 10 is done installing? Jaws  came back on. The sounds I have to open and close programs keeps going on and on so I am uncertain. Is there way I can check their windows 10 is the operating system on my PC? Was I correct to choose express settings? Now do I need to uninstall Jaws  17 and reinstall it?

Hi Lauren,
You can upgrade without sighted help. You should install JAWS 17 first. Then, download the Tool from FS that will allow you to get rid of all previous JAWS versions from your computer along with shared components. The only version you should have on your computer is Version 17. If you want, You could also have version 16.0.1214. That will also work on Windows 10. Also, you will want to download the media creation tool from the MS page and save it to your computer. Make sure that you don’t run the media creation tool until you run that FS tool to get rid all versions of JAWS off your computer except 16.0.1214 and JAWS 17. Now, you can run the media creation tool to install win 10. Just press enter on the tool and press enter on upgrade this pc. JAWS will still be working. Once you get through some screens, JAWS will go quiet and this is when you wait an hour or more to let win10 download to your computer. It is around 3 gigs. After an hour, just turn on Narrator by pressing windows key + enter. You will be able to finish the install with Narrator. Now, since you have Windows 8, it should install fine after the first time. It is upgrading from Windows 7 that causes the trouble and it takes a few times. I upgraded from Windows 8.1, and it took me one time of running the media creation tool, and win10 installed great the first time. This is really important. When win10 installs and JAWS comes back talking, it is good to uninstall JAWS and reinstall JAWS. If you do this, even upgrading from win 8 or 8.1, you will get much better results from JAWS from then on out. Please email me if you have any questions. It is easy, and once win10 is on your computer, I can really help you get everything adjusted so you have the best experience using win10. You will love it and never want to go back. I will be thinking about you as you upgrade. Email me as soon as you have any questions. Take care, David Moore.

I'm still seeing people sending mail to the old list addresses. That's to be expected, given how high trafick this list is it's possible some of you haven't seen we've made the change yet. So, while we wait for things to catch up, I've gone ahead and cheated. As of a couple minutes ago, all the old @lists.the-jdh.com addresses officially point to an equivalent address at groups.io. This should hopefully help to cut down on some of the confusion that's bound to stick around for a while yet as we all get used to the system. So, don't worry if you accidentally send a post to jfw@... instead of where it's supposed to go. Now, I've redirected it for you.

Everyone who's contacted me to let me know they should be set to digest mode should now be set to digest mode. If I've missed someone, it's probably because you haven't contacted me. For those of you on digest mode, the only non-digest emails you should be receiving now are announcements sent out by the moderation team--like, for instance, this one. This is expected behaviour. Translation: If you've received this email after being certain you've been set on digest mode, it is not broken. Do not tell me it's broken. If you email me saying you shouldn't have received this because you're on digest mode, I'm probably going to ask you to reread it. If you find something that legitimately *is* broken, however, fill my inbox with it and it'll be fixed as soon as I can.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that this is because Jaws 17 no longer supports Outlook express, which hasn't been supported by Microsoft for some time.

Greg,

I'm sorry for that lack of clarity.

As you're finding, you must create a new folder where you want messages from
this list to go, unless you have an existing folder where they can go. So,
to clarify:

Before creating a message rule, create a folder in Outlook 2010. If you need
suggestions on how to do this, please post again. (You can create a folder
in the message rule dialog, but it adds a complication.) Once in the message
rule dialog, you'll be asked if you want messages sent to a specific folder
and, if so, the name of that folder. A browse option will appear.

I referred to JFW as the text I used to complete the "To" field. This is in
the section where you state the conditions, that is, which part of a
message the rule applies to.

I hope this solves the problem.

I've followed your instructions but when I go to create a rule it only
gives me the option of sending the email address where I opened the rule
to a folder and not a catch all of JFW as you suggested. What am I doing
wrong?

After sending the message below, I realize it's way too dense. Also, it's
missing a crucial point. I think I can summarize this way:

1. Place focus next to a message that has been posted to this list.
do not open it.

2. Press the applications key and arrow up to "rules submenu."
Press enter.

3. Down arrow to "Create new rule." Press enter.

4. Now, use the tab and up and down arrow keys through the various
options and select the ones that are right for you. You'll need to listen
carefully, but the verbalizations are pretty clear.

5. For the address of the list, I typed simply "jfw" into the
appropriate edit field.

Subject: How to create a message rule for the new list

Many of us will want messages to the list sent to a separate folder. Here
are the directions I copied and slightly edited that David Whitehead
posted and that still work in Outlook 2010. I just created a rule using
them.

message rules

David Whitehead. here's how I create a message rule/filter in Microsoft
outlook 2010.

First I create the folder. Next we need to assign a rule/filter to the
newly created folder, By doing the following;

1, highlight a message which you wish to create a folder for, Example;
One of the messages from this group. Email clients with screen
readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:readers@yahoogroups.com> <mailto:Email
clients with screen readers%40yahoogroups.com

2, press applications key, up arrow and enter on, Rules sub menu, Or, you
could right arrow to open. Another way to do this is: Press applications
key, press the letter "s" And then press the letter "u", which will
directly place you into the message wizard. Here you will see the
following screen; Always Move Messages From: email clients with screen
readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:readers@yahoogroups.com> <mailto:email
clients with screen readers%40yahoogroups.com

Always Move Messages To: email clients with screen
readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:readers@yahoogroups.com> <mailto:email
clients with screen readers%40yahoogroups.com

Create Rule... Manage Rules & Alerts... you now need to down arrow and
enter on, create rule.... Note, as I indicated, if you use the shortcuts,
the letter "s"&"u" no need to arrow anywhere, since you're in the message
rule wizard.

3. you will now see a screen; Create Rule When I get e mail with all of
the selected conditions From email clients with screen
readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:readers@yahoogroups.com> <mailto:email
clients with screen readers%40yahoogroups.com by default this box is
unchecked you can check this box.

When I get e mail with all of the selected conditions Subject contains
[email clients with screen readers] Outlook 2007, this box is unchecked
by default I would leave this box as it is.

When I get e mail with all of the selected conditions Sent to email
clients with screen readers@yahoogroups.com
<mailto:readers@yahoogroups.com> <mailto:email clients with screen
readers%40yahoogroups.com this box is unchecked by default you can check
this box. Do the following Display in the New Item Alert window by
default this box is unchecked, you can leave as is. Do the following:Play
a selected sound: this box is unchecked by default, you can check this
box,

Browse... Here you could browse for a specific sound; Move the item to
folder:this box is unchecked by default, however you need to check this
box, Folder...press enter here, Now, you can arrow to the particular
folder, Or, you can letter navigate, Then tab okay, press enter. OK
Cancel Advanced Options... now you need to tab and enter on, Advanced

4. You will see the following screen;
