Hi,
I'm jumping in late on this thread, so don't mind me. Seems to me that the original question was sufficiently vague as to prompt any number of approaches to solving it. So here's another one that people may not have heard of.

Have you ever heard of the spike? It lets you select and cut multiple items to the clipboard, then place them back in your document in the order in which you want and have placed them on the clipboard. Here's a simple example of how to use it. Here are three lines of text which are out of order.

Line 2.
Line 1.
Line 3.

To rearrange them using the spike, select each line in the text above, in its proper order, one at a time.
After each selection, press ctrl+f3. Repeat this process for the remaining lines until the text disappears.
Then, press shift+ctrl+f3, and you should see

Line 1.

Line 2.

Line 3.

The spike is a nifty little feature once you get the hang of it.

Re: How to rearranged a text in document in jaws 13?

Gary King

From reading messages on this list over the years, I have concluded that a
lot of JAWS users don't bother going through the JAWS Basic Training modules. Many of the basic word processing and file management techniques are covered in these training modules, and people who are trying to learn on their own rather than attending some kind of formal training course should take the time to go through them thoroughly. Providing free training is one thing that FS does pretty well.

The Perkins Institute has developed a new 16 cell display unit this summer
retailing for about $1600 and there is also the Braille Edge, a 40 cell

dollars. These units have come down in price though still not cheep. There
is development underway to produce an entire 25-line Braille page but
release date likely 2 to 5 years away and who knows how many light years the
price will be out of the average Joe's reach--in my case--my dime, certainly
a very inflated dime at that.

Hi,
I'm jumping in late on this thread, so don't mind me. Seems to me
that
the original question was sufficiently vague as to prompt any number
of
approaches to solving it. So here's another one that people may not
have
heard of.

Have you ever heard of the spike? It lets you select and cut multiple
items to the clipboard, then place them back in your document in the
order
in which you want and have placed them on the clipboard. Here's a
simple
example of how to use it. Here are three lines of text which are out
of
order.

Line 2.
Line 1.
Line 3.

To rearrange them using the spike, select each line in the text above,
in
its proper order, one at a time.
After each selection, press ctrl+f3. Repeat this process for the
remaining lines until the text disappears.
Then, press shift+ctrl+f3, and you should see

Line 1.

Line 2.

Line 3.

The spike is a nifty little feature once you get the hang of it.

Tom

Try using tables and tabs, headings, lists ...

Really, I'm not sure what you mean by your question.
What sort of rearranging are you trying to do?

It goes way back in Microsoft Word. I remember it from a tutorial I read

Hi,
I'm jumping in late on this thread, so don't mind me. Seems to me
that
the original question was sufficiently vague as to prompt any number
of
approaches to solving it. So here's another one that people may not
have
heard of.

Have you ever heard of the spike? It lets you select and cut multiple
items to the clipboard, then place them back in your document in the
order
in which you want and have placed them on the clipboard. Here's a
simple
example of how to use it. Here are three lines of text which are out
of
order.

Line 2.
Line 1.
Line 3.

To rearrange them using the spike, select each line in the text above,
in
its proper order, one at a time.
After each selection, press ctrl+f3. Repeat this process for the
remaining lines until the text disappears.
Then, press shift+ctrl+f3, and you should see

Line 1.

Line 2.

Line 3.

The spike is a nifty little feature once you get the hang of it.

Tom

Thanks, my husband fixed it but this happened about five years ago and never
again on a desktop.

Rose,

Here's the notes I have on the screen rotation and how to fix it...

Fixing Screen Rotation

Ctrl+Alt+Down restores the screen to its correct position. So, if you're
only trying that keystroke, you won't see anything happening on screen. If
you try Ctrl+Alt+Up however, the screen will turn up-side-down, which will
be an obvious giveaway. You may also find that JAWS stops reading list views
correctly if the screen has been rotated.

The options to double-check are in a dialog that you reach through the
desktop. These instructions are for systems with the Intel graphics chips
usually found in Del machines.

Press Windows+M to minimize all apps and go to the desktop. Then press
Ctrl+Space until JAWS says that the item your on is not selected. Now press
the applications key to bring up the desktops context menu. You should find
an option called graphics. This will open the graphics card applet which
contains some options for disabling the rotation shortcut keys.

You may need to use the JAWS cursor to get to the relevant check boxes
within the adapters properties dialog.

There is another way to get to these options but it involves right-clicking
the desktop itself, not an icon, but the background of the desktop. As Dave
says, go to the desktop and make sure that nothing is selected. (After
pressing Windows+M, press Ctrl+Space until you hear "not selected".) Next,
press Applications and choose graphic options.

BTW, this problem seems to be most prevalent on Del machines which have the
on-board Intel graphics chip, even more so on laptops.

Are you sure that this is actually an auto arrangement and not some
joke that is being played on her? Right click the desktop and then
underview make sure that auto arrange is selected.

If not that I would make sure that she has not selected some right to
left locale (even with RTL if the text is in a script that windows
recognizes as LTR it will get displayed correctly, just not
necessarily where one would expect).

Rose,

On some laptops (Dell, for example) there is a keystroke that will do this.
It is the same keystroke as used for reading rows and columns in tables. You
need to go to the graphics properties and disable the hotkey for allowing
the rotation. I'll see if I can dig up the notes I have.

Re: How to rearranged a text in document in jaws 13?

Tom Lange

Hi,
I'm jumping in late on this thread, so don't mind me.

Connection Test

Colin Fell <colinrf@...>

Hi List members:

Help, Please!!
Recently, the JFW Web Details informed me that my deliveries were being disabled, as I had more than 10 Bounces against me prior to 12 August, so I re-enabled the option setting.
Now the JFW Web Page Logon details are informing me that there are already 2 Bounces against me, preventing deliveries! I cannot find any reason for this.
Is there, perhaps, a limit on the number of characters in the Password, and if so, how would that prevent email deliveries?
I have tried both 10 and 8 characters, both still allowing me access to the JFW Logon details OK.
I have now dropped the Password down to 7 characters, still allowing access to the Web Page details OK, but still no email incoming deliveries!!!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to receive this message nor any other JFW incoming deliveries, until I straighten out the logic so please feel free to contact me at:

if you have any suggestions or solutions to this dilemma.
All my other Lists are working fine.
