Hi Listers,

I believe that you will find that the name of the symbol in question is spelled g r a v e. It's a French word, hence the pronunciation grahv. It is the name of the accent mark, going from upper left to lower right which is used on some vowels in French, and also in Italian and Spanish and I don't know what other languages. I personally have never found a use for this key in writing English. I have seen it used incorrectly in place of a single quotation mark, but in other languages it has to be on a vowell. HTH. Hi Bill & Dave,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Bill, thank you for explaining what I want to do a hell of a lot better than myself. This is a message I got concerning this matter & how to fix it. Mike, Create a script that is activated whenever the grov key is pressed. Within that script call whatever function is necessary to cause your clock to speak. JFW will not speak the grov key if a script is associated with that key. I suggest experimenting by creating the script for notepad. That script will only be activated when notepad has focus and the grov key is pressed. Whenever you have that script working as desired, you could copy it into the default.jss file and it will work for all aplications. Be aware that if you put that script in the default.jss file, it will superceed all previous functioning of the grov key in all other applications. If that becomes a problem in some applications, use the PassKeyThrough function before pressing the grov key in those applications. hth Bob Take care. Mike This email was sent from my iLazyBoy.

Hi Adrian, Dave, & Soronel
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Thank you very much for the suggestions but, these have all been tried without success. The grave / tilde key doesn't showup in the keyboard manager. Stopping Jaws from saying grave / tilde in punctuation settings will only stop Jaws from saying it if, Jaws sees that particular punctuation mark in a file when reading it. If I alter the dictionary manager that has the same results as modifying the punctuation settings. I am attempting to stop Jaws from saying grave / tilde when pressing the grave / tilde key only, not when Jaws is told to ignore / recognize the punctuation mark. I think this is something that may require a script being written or a remapping of the keyboard itself. I just don't have a clue as to how to do this! Thanks again for the suggestions. Take care. Note that it's spelled like the place where we'll inevitably end up. When pressed with shift, it creates the tilde that is used above the n in Spanish. So the drawback in your JAWS dictionary suggestion, Dave, is that Mike would be suppressing verbalization of a word that has several meanings and turns up quite often. Mike, you said you already tried the keyboard manager. However, now that you know the correct spelling of "grave," it might be worth another scan down the list.

Question about Adobe X
Terrilynne
Okay, I downloaded Adobe X 10 and have tried opening a book. It appears to be empty. In Adobe version 7, JAWS told me that Adobe said "alert, empty document." However, I am not getting such a message from Adobe X. Is this a change, or is there some way to get it to tell me?
One reason that I am uncertain is that it says something like 71.5% when I am using the JAWS cursor, so I can't tell if it just isn't finished, or if the document is an image. Any help would be appreciated. TerriLynne Pomeroy

I am currently using JAWS version ten. I will be upgrading, but it won't be for a couple of months.

The latest Adobe Reader X10. I have no problems using this version of Adobe Reader with JAWS. Don't know it it works if you're using a JAWS before JAWS 11.

Which version of Adobe is accessible with JAWS
Terrilynne
Hi all,
I am currently running Adobe 7.0 and have, thus far, had no problems with it. But I just downloaded an ebook which says that it can't be processed by my (outdated) version of Adobe. I have hesitated to upgrade Adobe because, at one time, some versions gave accessibility better than others. Is this still true? And, if so, which version should I download for a more up to date but still accessible read of .pdf files? Thanks much, TerriLynne
