List Name Jfw etc not displaying in Header of incoming emails

Colin Fell <colinrf@...>

Hi:

I subscribed to the List just a few days ago and am receiving the List emails OK.
However, I notice that, unlike other Lists I am subscribed to, the name of the Jfw etc List is not appearing in the Headers, only the respective Sender's Name and their Subject.

Q1. Is this normal, or should I expect to hear the Name of the Jfw List spoken by Jaws13 as well as the Sender's Name and Subject?
Q2. How do I tell my OS Vista WinMail system to speak the Name of the Jfw List, as it does for other NZ Lists already?

Thanks for any help,

Colin Fell

Adobe digital edition 1.8 preview 4 May 30

Emily Beckstein <nbeck18@...>

I'm new to the list. I'm trying to use JAWS 12.0 with what I am told is
Adobe digital edition 1.8 preview 4 May 30, and am having issues with
navigation commands. For example when I hit control while JAWS is in say-all
mode the cursor goes back to the beginning of the page. It also won't let me
use the commands to move by sentence or paragraph.

Could somebody tell me if there is an alternate set of navigation commands,
do I need to use a different version of JAWS and/or Adobe digital edition,
or is there anything that would make it more user friendly?

Thanks,

Emily

Re: JFW and Bullet Announcements

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Darran,

Before when I helped you it was for Jaws10. These steps are for Jaws13.

In the default Settings Center in punctuation I show 9 different kinds of
bullits using Jaws 13.0.924. In this list of punctuation marks, numbers 114
throu 122, are the different types of bullits. When making changes in
Customize Punctuation, if you do not want Jaws to speak/recognize a
particular punctuation mark you want to choose the
" all " selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down
through. They are none, some, most, & all. In these selections they work
backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose " none "
for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in
whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the " all "
radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs. To make a
change to a particular punctuation sign follow the steps below.
1. Press Jaws/insert key + 6 on the number row for the Settings Center.
2. Press control, shift, +D , to open the default Settings Center.
3. Arrow down to Puntuation & press right arrow to open, & arrow down 1 time
to Customize Punctuation & press the spacebar to open. Or type Punctuation
into the search box, & wait a couple of seconds for the list to populate.
Arrow down to Customize Punctuation... & press the spacebar to open. Do not
press enter on Customize Punctuation... because this will close the Settings
Center.
4. You are now in a list of punctuation marks. Arrow down the list and when
you have the punctuation mark you want to change highlighted, tab 1 time to
the radio buttons that I mentioned earlier.
5. Keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier about these choices working
backwards, check the box in this list, in your case not wanting any bullits
spoken, choose the all button.
6. Now, if you want to make a change to another punctuation mark, shift tab
back to the list and highlight a different punctuation mark, tab back to the
radio buttons and check the box you prefer.
7. After you are done making your changes tab to okay and press enter to
save your changes & close the Settings Center.
Now, I hope that you are not as confused as I am after typing all of this.
LOL Hope this has helped. Take care.
Mike

Subject: JFW and Bullet Announcements

Hi List.
In the past, I was greatly helped by another list member to resolve this
issue, but I've checked and checked and I can't turn up his list of
instructions. So I'm back again!

I don't like hearing all the bullet announcements when reading on the web
or in emails etc, and I know there's somewhere in the settings I can go to
alter this type of thing. The options are to hear all, some most and none.
But I've looked and I simply can't seem to find the correct section. And
this is using the latest version of JAWS.

To hear no bullet announcements, I think I have to select "all", is this
correct? Does seem rather counter-intuitive though! Anyway, can anyone help
me resolve this?

Many thanks in advance.

Darran

Re: Firefox and Crashes

douglas richard dexheimer

Recently I started having problems changing the about:config file to make Firefox more responsive on sites that use Flash content. Once I type in the URL and select the "I'll be careful" button, my system sort of locks where it is, and I can't tab to the filter editfield, or it takes a long struggle to get there. There's a warning message saying changing these settings could harm my computer or affect my privacy. I should be sure of what I'm doing before continuing. As I'm tabbing through the fields I hear "search bookmarks and history," "search using ask," "about:config tab," etc., like the site is trying to load and not responding. Anyone have an idea how to fix this whenever I need to change the configurations in my browser? Thanks.
By the way, I've been having to change Firefox versions from time to time to listen to certain audio streaming sites that don't work on a newer version of FF, and have to check the config file to make sure it's set to false.
Regarding trying to install the Adobe Flash Player I was having trouble with, my brother did it remotely with a software program called LogMeIn; he clicked on the appropriate button using a mouse and got the player downloaded successfully for me. It looks like the plugin finder or Flash installer is totally inaccessible for the blind user. Thanks one and all for your feedback and suggestions for making things more accessible to people using the keyboard and a screenreader. God bless.

Re: installing plugins

douglas richard dexheimer

I went to Ninite, checked the appropriate boxes and ran the installer two or three times, but when I went to the station I was looking at, I wound up in the same mess I described last night. The installer showed Flash as being up to date, but when I go to the site for the station I'm still prompted to install the missing plugin. In the Ninite program I found Flash but not Adobe Flash Player. What am I missing? Is it a compatibility issue with the version of Firefox I'm using at the moment? I went to Desktop but didn't find the player there, then I went to , Start Menu, Run and typed in the name of the Adobe Flash Player, but my entry was rejected. I tried the Search feature in Start, but it didn't find the program on my system. Thanks for any further input.
P.S. Last night when I first tried installing the Adobe Flash upgrade from the Adobe website, the installation was slow and eventually interrupted, after which I got an error message saying the installation failed because the application was already running. Before that I was prompted to close all other Firefox links and then retry, and upon retrying I got that error. Any further help appreciated.

Hi Douglas,
The best way to get around the annoying Adobe installer is to go to:

www.ninite.com

And build yourself an installer for the browser of your choice.
Search for the word "Flash", check the boxes for the ones you want and then
click "Get Installer" and follow the prompts.

I recently experienced a problem updating Adobe Flash Player in order to
listen to a certain station. At some point I was notified of an error in
downloading the upgrade, and when I went back to the station I was alerted
to install the missing plugin, Adobe Flash Player 11.3 something. When I
clicked on the install option, followed by next, there were two unresponsive
(or inaccessible) dialogs: one was the Adobe Flash Player 11.3 Installer and
had two buttons, a blank one and a Q (quit) button. Pressing the blank
button only brought me to the desktop and the installer dialog remained put.
The other dialog was a plugin finder service with a cancel button and
nothing else to choose from. This makes it impossible to install the latest
version of Adobe without sighted help; pressing the blank button in the
first mentioned dialog (Jaws won't tell me what that button does) just
brings up the desktop and nothing changes.
Perhaps my brother could take a look at this with LogMeIn, or someone on the
JFW list can provide feedback on resolving this. I now have the
above-mentioned apps running on my system, so Big Doug please log on anytime
and try to troubleshoot this problem. Thanks, and good night.

I went to the St. Philip's web site and was prompted to install the
missing plugin, but once I tried to select and install I ended up in an
inaccessible Plugin Finder Service Center where I don't have a clue what to
do or what to select. I just find a list of different readme help sections
or sites selling products. Can you please try to log in and take a look?

2. Press enter on volume & press enter on adjust audio properties.
3. You should be on the Volume Tab, now tab 4 or 5 times until you get to,

Hi Bill,
This option is soundcard specific.

Subject: Where is the option to control volume sliders

In JAWS 11 for Windows xp, where is the option which controls whether volume
control sliders work independently or together?

Thank you.

Re: installing plugins

Hi Douglas,
The best way to get around the annoying Adobe installer is to go to:

www.ninite.com

Thanks.

Re: installing plugins

I checked the plugin service finder again and found a Next button, with a message about downloads being available--namely, the Flash Player. But when I activate the Next button, I'm moved to the player installer which has the two buttons; then when I go back to the finder service, the Next button is still there. With both dialogs I'm just going around in circles. Please help!

Re: installing plugins

I just tabbed through my running applications and found the plugin finder service dialog had disappeared, but the Adobe Flash Player installer remains. I wonder if the finder closed because it found the missing plugin, while that plugin is still trying to install. Or maybe I accidentally pressed the cancel button in the service finder. When I returned to the website for the station mentioned earlier and selected the link to install the plugin, the plugin finder service came back. I hope it will go away again by itself.
