Hi, Mike. In the past, some updates done by the automatic JAWS updater have

failed to install correctly, and worse, once a JAWS update fails to update and install correctly, JAWS needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled from the JAWS installer. So, Freedom Scientific began to recommend that the installer be used to update when possible, and that the updater be used when it was not possible to install directly from the installer. This notification will happen each time you restart Jaws. The question becomes why doing the update manually is the better approach. Perhaps we can get some feedback on this. |
