moderated Re: Editing the status line in Word with JAWS
Richard,
Thanks for this suggestion. When I pressed alt + 4, an optimize spacing between commands setting opened in Word 2019 with a choice between Mouse and Touch. I selected Touch and now when I press ctrl + shift + g in a word document, the word count dialog is read by Fusion in its entirety.

Try, alt+4, followed by w.
You get this in an empty document: Word Count dialog‑
I get the same thing with control+shift+g.
But, this does not tell you where you are in the document line the status line should.

I believe Microsoft must have changed the presentation of this information in a recent upgrade. While Insert + PageDown hasn’t been reading the status bar info to me for a while, I’ve been able to get word count and other Microsoft Word document info by pressing Ctrl + shift + g no longer than a few weeks ago. Now, when I press this shortcut, a Word count dialog appears on the screen but Fusion no longer reads what it contains. I have to pass my cursor over the lines to get the info spoken. I’m running Fusion 2020 with Word 2019.
There is a checkbox setting at the bottom of the Word count dialog to include textboxes, footnotes, and endnotes and this is the only thing that Fusion reads when I try arrowing through the dialog. None of the actual count info is read.

For some time the Jaws shortcut key has not told me how many words in my document. It tells me where I am in the document, i.e. which line and which page and if I press the shortcut at the end of the document, whether it has any spelling errors, but if I want to know how many words, then I have to press f6 and tab three times. I contacted JAWS Tech Support today. Best advice I got was to just use the F-6 key and read through all the info I wanted there instead of using a keystroke I’ve used for the past 21 years. Oh well.

Greetings:
One option, time-consuming as it is, is to contact Microsoft’s Disability Answer Desk, Office Support. I am running Microsoft 365 with the latest JAWS on Windows 10. I am not experiencing the same problem.
This one is difficult to troubleshoot from a distance.😊
Warmly,
Curtis Chong

Yes, the window is maximized. I’ve tried it with multiple documents, but with the same results.

Is the window maximized?
