I am running Microsoft Word Subscription Version 16.0.14228.20226, notice my version ends in 26 while yours ends in 16. I wonder if Loreal is running the same one as me. Loreal, if you don’t know how to get the version number of Word with Jaws, open word and press insert+control+v
This is possibly the issue.
A certain place might freeze over before Microsoft would take responsibility for this, but I’ll drop a note to FS to see if they can duplicate it with this version of Word.

Hello Richard:
In my version of Microsoft 365, 16.0.14228.20216, the settings for adding or removing something from the status bar are holding between successive iterations of Word. Why the behavior on my system is different than what you are experiencing is a mystery.
Kind regards,

Loreal stated in one of her earliest emails in the thread that she is using Microsoft 365 and Jaws pro 2021 all updated….
I am running Jaws Home, but otherwise have the same setup.
I’m finding that doing the steps of f6 to Status bar, applications key and checking something like Word count, only works for that particular session. Once I close word and relaunch it, the Word Count item is still checked when I hit f6 and get to status bar, but the Jaws key plus page down does not read it unless I uncheck and check it again.
This is clearly one of Jaws’ most stupid issues in my very biased opinion. Why adding more options for some of you isn’t behaving the same way, makes it next to impossible for FS to duplicate and therefore fix it, but it is rather frustrating. I suspect especially so for Loreal since this impacts her job.
I have had other issues like this and the problem was fixed, apparently unintentionally, in a later Jaws update. Even after Eric Damery remoted into my machine and saw the behavior I was dealing with about 18 months ago they could not fix it. Yet, that issue has gone away…
Fingers crossed this will happily vanish soon.

Greetings:
I am also wondering if the version of Office you are running is the Microsoft 365 version, the retail version, or a version which was acquired through the Microsoft Store. Some of the folks with whom I have worked have inadvertently picked up the store version, and when I checked with Freedom Scientific, I was told that Store version (as differentiated from the subscription version) is not the one we should be using. This is just an off-the-wall question which may or may not get at the heart of this vexing issue.
Kind regards,

Hi Loreal,
After opening the document, have you tried to switch windows with, Alt + tab, to see if the document might be opening in another window?

Yes, the window is maximized. I’ve tried it with multiple documents, but with the same results.
