Oh, for those long lost days!   I have only ever used emoticons very sparingly, as I've generally been able to carry off snark, sarcasm, and irony without them.

Emojis are something I do not think I've ever used except as an embellishment in a text message, e.g., adding a birthday cake to a happy birthday message.  I despise the things with a burning passion overall (not that anyone else needs to, that's just me).
