Well, I’ve solved the problem myself. When you get into Google Calendar and find it is speaking in a foreign language you hit the Application key and arrow down to where it says Translate into English and hit the Enter key. Once it gets translated you can go to the Settings page. I did this, and guess what? The default language was not English. It was Slovokian. There is a place in Settings where you can choose the language you want. I chose English United States, hit the Enter key, waited for the setting to change and voila!!! It works!!!

Hi Rick,
I use Google Calendar al the time with Jaws, but I’m using Microsoft Edge rather than Chrome. I’ve never encountered the language issue with it. I suggest trying a different browser. Also, the app is quite accessible, I use both concurrently with no issue at all.
If you’d like to troubleshoot one-on-one, feel free to reach out and we can have a chat. Not to worry group, if Rick does choose this option, I’ll write out a “how we fixed it”. 😊

Did any of you get the message I sent on Monday about the trouble I am having accessing Google calendar? I have not heard from anybody and this morning I can’t even get hold of Freedom Scientific.

Dear Listers:
Recently I listened to a Freedom Scientific archived webinar from last year that talked about using JAWS with Google Calendar. I have decided I want to try to learn to use Google Calendar but every time I go to calendar.google.com JAWS starts speaking to me in a foreign language. When I called Freedom Scientific Technical Support they told me several other people had had the same problem and said it had something to do with Google settings. I went to my Google account, signed in using Facebook, found Settings, and when I checked to see what language was the default language it showed English United States, which is just the language setting I thought I had. Then after discovering that the default language was the correct one I got out of my Google account and opened up Google Chrome, which is my Internet browser, hit the Alt+L keystroke to open up the addressbar, entered calendar.google.com, and hit the Enter key. When the page loaded, here is what was on it:
