After opening the context menu, if you up arrow do you have the create shortcut option?  This is without opening the, SendTo submenu, and is just another option in the context menu.

Send to sub menu is there, but Desktop create shortcut is not in that menu.  This is strange, because I know that I have seen that before.

Marty,

You need to open the, SendTo, submenu to find the create desktop shortcut option.  After you open the context menu press the letter, N , to open the , SendTo submenu, or down arrow to, submenu SendTo, and press enter.

Another way is, after opening the context menu, up arrow to, create shortcut, and press enter and follow the dialogues that come up.

Mike,  This is what I had tried already.  I went to Start All Programs JFW 2020 JAWS and hit the Context menu.  I did not find a Create Desktop shortcut option, so I went to Properties Shortcut Tab and entered J for the shortcut key.  I then tabbed to Apply then hit OK.  Then I exited JAWS 2020 and pressed Control+Alt+J and it worked after a few seconds.  I do not have a desktop icon, but I have a JAWS short cut hot key stroke.

Howdy again Marty,

Okay for Windows 7 do the following:

Windows 7:
1. Press the Windows key to open the Start menu.

2. Navigate to, Submenu Programs or All Programs, and press enter.

3. Navigate with tapping the letter, J, until you get to your Jaws version.

4. Open the context menu with the applications key, or, Shift + F10, navigate to, SendTo , press enter, down arrow to, Desktop create shortcut, and press enter.  You'll now have a, Jaws2020, shortcut icon on the desktop.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Thanks Mike.  I failed to mention that I am still using Windows 7, so it does not recognize the shell:appsfolder.

Hi Marty,

To create a desktop shortcut for Jaws2020 try the following:
1. Press, Windows key + R, to open the Run dialogue, and type in what is below, read character by character, to make sure you type it correctly and press enter.
shell:appsfolder
2. Tap the letter, J, until Jaws reports Jaws2020.

3. Press the, applications key, or, Shift + F10, to open the context menu.
4. Up or Down arro to, Create shortcut, and press enter.  You'll get a dialogue stating that a shortcut can't be created here, and would you like to create
a shortcut on the desktop instead?  Press the spacebar on the Yes button and wham bam your Word shortcut icon will be on the desktop.

OK,  I have just deleted my JAWS 2020 short cut from my desk top.  I then went to Start All Programs JFW 2020 JAWS and hit the Context menu.  I did not find a Create Desktop shortcut option, so I went to Properties Shortcut Tab and entered J for the shortcut key.  I then tabbed to Apply then hit OK.  Then I exited JAWS 2020 and pressed Control+Alt+J and it worked after a few seconds.  Now, I do not have a desktop shortcut for JAWS 2020 and none of my other desktop shortcuts work, but the hot key combo works to restart JAWS.

I also wonder if you might solve the problem by first deleting the JAWS shortcut from your desktop. Next, copy a new shortcut from the start menu to the desktop and reassign a shortcut key to the newly copied shortcut.

Hi Adrain,

Why not go with, J2020, just to cut down on what you have to listen to?  And with subsequent version shortcuts you or someone else has on their desktop, J19, J2018....

I skipped past several messages on this topic and so I don't know if this suggestion was also made.

I used to have the problem of the disappearing control-alt-j shortcut until an FS tech support guy told me to rename the icon. Ever since, I've added the word "shortcut" in the icons for every version of JAWS on my desktop. I'm trying to remember if I created the control-alt-j shortcut before or after renaming the icon. I'm guessing I do that first.

Example: JAWS 2020 shortcut

Sometimes that keystroke seems to get lost.  Doublecheck in properties that it is still assigned.
1. Go to the desktop.
2. Locate the JAWS icon, do not press enter.
3. Press alt+enter.  This should give you properties.
4. Tab to shortcut, and be sure it is set to ctrl+alt+j.
5. Tab to okay.  sometimes you get an error message saying that only an administrator can make this change.  Okay the message, then you can okay the change.
6. While still on the JAWS icon, press alt+enter again and check to be sure it worked.

Good luck!
