Re: screen resolution

I'm thinking the reason why there were 3 mirror drivers because she
probably had 3 versions of Jaws installed on her computer. I had two
instances of the mirror driver and had probs a while ago and got rid of one.
Coincidentally I had 2 versions of jaws installed at the time.

Hello there;

Well, if it's not broke, don't fix it,
However,
Having 3 FSMirror drivers I don't think this is normal.
My clients computer was a mess,
It simply got stuck on certain letters, and just wouldn't stop.

It just kept reading,
Quote, quote, quote,
And slash, slash, slash,
And many other letters.

Hopefully,
I hit the jack pot,
She's using the high contrast black theme, And so far, everythinhg is
working.

Interesting, I just checked and I too have three instances of the mirror
driver. However since I don't experience stuttering under normal use I am
somewhat leery of just deleting a couple of them. All three say this device
is working properly.

Hello there;

Speaking of screen resolution,
I found something interesting on one of my clients computer today.

I went into the device manager,
Display drivers,
And I found 3 instances of the freedom scientific mirror drivers.
Well, I deleted 2, and, just like that, All the stuttering,
disappeared.
I set her screen resolution to 50%
And crossing my fingers, all will go well.
Why would there be 3 copies of the mirror drivers?

The list I gave you are standard resolutions, not specific to JAWS
users, and I haven't seen any documentation by FS on this issue since
the days of CRT monitors, which is what I still have, by the way.

Thank you.

Hey Bill,

Thanks for the excellent list.

Are those generic recommendations (including sighted users), or are
they specific to people using JAWS?

I've seen manufacturers provide monitor drivers that run at "preferred"
resolutions (laptop screen drivers can be particularly aggressive in
insisting on running at their "native" optimal resolution).

It may just be "lore" in the accessible tech community, but I heard a
consultant say that if one is having problems with JAWS, that changing
to
a
"standard" monitor resolution, or even using a monitor that has its
"native"

resolution at 1280x1024 is "better".

Do you know if FS has any useful documentation on this issue?

It depends on the size of your monitor. Here are some common ones.

Monitor size

Recommended resolution (in pixels)

19-inch standard ratio LCD monitor
1280 × 1024
