Temporary place marker, control+windows+k Go to the end of the area you want to copy, or to the beginning if you started at the end. Press insert+space, then m. Then, press control+c. Go where you want to paste and hit control+v.

Have you tried using temporary place markers, and the layer command select from marker to current position, *then copying?
