Hi, again. Another example of this is the video player Comcast uses on their Xfinity Stream Web app. When you begin playing a TV program or a movie. JAWS goes into application mode when the player window opens as it's actually more beneficial to interact with the player in this mode than it is when using the virtual cursor. You can, of course, use the virtual cursor if you want to but application mode gives you some additional functionality. As an example, pressing up arrow or down arrow raises or lowers the volume, respectively. Pressing left arrow or right arrow moves backward or forward through the video, when applicable. Pressing M mutes or unmutes the audio, pressing the question mark key generates a list of shortcut keys, etc. If you had the virtual cursor enabled much of this functionality would not work unless you first press the pass-through hotkey before pressing one of these dedicated keys. In JAWS, the pass-through hotkey is insert-3, the 3 being on the row of numbers and not on the numeric keypad.

Hi,
My apologies, but what's "application mode?"
I've never heard of it until now.

That is exactly correct. Pressing the PC cursor key twice quickly reactivates either the PC cursor or the virtual cursor. Most likely it will be the virtual cursor assuming this is happening on a Web page.

Subject: application mode

Had an issue today with application mode.

I was uploading a file, and when I got done with it, I couldn't get out of application mode.

Not to mention, that it didn't tell me whether I was uploading a resume, a reference, or a cover letter.

I used rout jaws to pc to arrow around some, then used rooted pc to jaws to break out of it.

Also, I found that hitting enter twice, and or pulling up the links list and selecting, move to link worked.

However, I was wondering if any of you had a better way of working with that…

Thanks,

Justin
