On the View ribbon, tab over to a checkbox for “Show messages as conversation”. Check that box. As an aside, you will also want to go into Options on the file menu and arrow down to the Ease of Access section. Hit space on that, then
tab until you hear something about “don’t expand conversation when you arrow over them”. This will keep Outlook from automatically opening a conversation thread as you are arrowing up and down in your mailbox. To open a thread, you either right arrow or
hit enter on the item. Close a thread by hitting left arrow. I’ve found this is a little quirkier in Outlook 2016 than it used to be, but it’s still a great feature for wading through group list messages.

Re: 2 questions about Office 365
Where do I go, to organize my messages by thread?
- If by “dark mode” you mean a high contrast setting, I use the Windows High Contrast color scheme for this. The color scheme options available within Office programs don’t seem to
make any visible difference to me. The potential downside of using high contrast is that it overrides most color flagging in Outlook and Excel. In other words, Outlook offers options to have certain messages or calendar entries color coded and these don’t
show up in the High Contrast color scheme. The exception is items on your task list or that you have flagged in your inbox with a due date will turn red once overdue. Same goes for Excel. If I get a spreadsheet with cells that have been shaded in a particular
color, the Windows High Contrast scheme overrides this. This is actually great for me when I’m focused on the content of the cells and using a bit of remaining vision, but is a terrible problem when I am trying to ensure that my spreadsheet looks presentable
to sighted people I’m about to send it to. I sometimes turn off the Windows High Contrast Color scheme to review a spreadsheet before sending.
- Yes, you can organize message by conversation, and by date. I do this for my JAWS group emails.
I have 2 questions about Office 365.
- Does office have a “dark mode,” if so, how do I activate it?
- In outlook, can I organize messages by thread, in addition to the default option of date?
