There's a couple way to achieve what your asking to do, The first way is, 1, start menu edit box, Type default. You will see/hear default programs press enter. 2, now tab and enter on, Set your default programs link. 3, now arrow, or, letter navigate to the windows media player, 4, now tab and enter on, Set this program as default button.
