We don't always agree, but here I totally agree with you. So far Peter
hasn't said anything which would inspire confidence in me to even want to
talk to him. I wonder if there is also a Paul in his team? You know, Peter

Man, I don’t want to be a Debbie downer, but no, this doesn’t’ sound
sketchy at all…

As far as the cost of blindness related technology.

While prices for some stuff can still be eye watering, the trend has
indeed gone down. Vispero’s new pricing model being the most recent
example of that. Despite Gerald’s reflexive “The Sky is Falling”, I’m
sure the Vispero folks scratch padded their new structure and after
all their number crunching, they must have been satisfied enough to go
forward. Just spitballing, $90 a month as opposed to one shot deals of
$900 with $60 yearly SMAs after that may give them a more solid and
consistent revenue stream. Let folks catch up and give even other
people the chance to dip their toes into the Jaws world and probably
end up retaining a lot of them when it comes time to renew.

Who knows, maybe between NVDA’s improvements and Microsoft’s Narrator
push, this was the competition that was necessary to finally break
down that initial price barrier for acquiring Jaws.

Newer and cheaper Braille displays are on the market, OCR solutions
aren’t only confined to K1000 anymore. I mean, you could get by with
the KNFBReader Windows app that cost $20. ABBY FineReader too. This
isn’t even mentioning the iOS/mobile stuff.

Stuff sure isn’t suddenly cheap, but man, it’s not how it used to be
before where unless you had access to a governmental program, had a
family well off enough to pay for it, maybe pawned off your soul to
get financing to buy a piece of tech or could play with it until you
graduated out of school you were more or less straight out of luck.

have often contributed to such fund raisers. But nowadays when you
look at Go Fund Me or other such sites where people beg for money
because they want to go on vacation or because they can't afford
something they want then I certainly wouldn't give them a single
Penny. Once a very very long time ago when I was very young I fell for
one of these get rich schemes with real estate. I happened to hear
this infomercial about this guy who was just itching to share with
everybody how you can get rich in less than a year buy buying real
estate and he showed off all these happy people who bought his
tutorial for $199 which was only $99 if you acted now and on and on.
Of course it came with a full money back guaranty and naiive as I was
I ordered it. It ended up being like a dozen CD's where he went on and
on saying nothing and repeating himself and it was a complete waste of
time and money. I called to get my money back but of course because of
some condition I forgot I didn't qualify, basically guys like that are
like the old snakeoil sales people who sell a cure for something and the
only thing it cures is their own wallet.

A lot of blind people also choose not to create income
streams to generate the money to self-fund whatever blindness products
and services they need. Mary and I have many ideas for generating
additional income streams. We have heard nothing but excuses from
blind people we tried to reach out to to help them improve their
financial situation. Thanks to someone sharing a business idea with us
years ago this past January we were able to buy the latest upgrade of
Jaws for Windows, the Dusbury Braille Translator, and my wife Mary
bought herself a Braille-Edge 40 without seeking help from rehab thank
you



Let me shut down some other rubbish that has come upon
other lists on which we shared these accomplishments. Recall above
that we said we're willing to help others accomplish what we have done
to be better positioned to meet the costs of blindness products and
services only to be told we were braggers, and were called many other
names I won't repeat.
Braggers don't reach out to help others improve their financial
situation. I hate to say it but those with such mindsets and who do
nothing but complain about the high cost of blindness products and
services without being willing to do something about it have created
their own problems. While it's true society doesn't always have the
best attitude towards the blind the blind themselves are also
responsible for their lack of financial resources if opportunities are
placed in their laps and they fail to get on board.



I also want to commend VFO for it's new pricing and
authorization scheme. They have done something to make it easier for
blind people to buy their products. It's now up to blind individuals
to seek out opportunities to develop the needed income streams so they
can buy whatever VFO product they need without having to turn to rehab
for help. Again Mary and I stand ready to assist anyone wishing to
follow our lead so they can do what we've accomplished. All the best.

It seems to me that if and when the SMA program is terminated, the
least they can do is discount the licenses with additional years. Has
Freedom Scientific/VFO/Vispero forgotten that most blind people don't
have a lot of money since so many of us are not employed or receive
our JAWS from agencies?

Hello, everyone.



I have been reading bits and pieces of info, but can t seem to find a
nice concise summary of the new Jaws annual home license that
apparently is now available with the release of Jaws 2019.



Jaws 2019 is the last Jaws upgrade on my SMA, so I will need to do
something to renew it at some point.



Up until now, I ve renewed my Jaws Home SMA for a two-year period for
$120.



If there now is a more economical way to do this, I d certainly love
to learn about it.
