Re: JAWS 2019 Beta 2

It is out as of now:

Jaws 2019 Public Beta 2 Released

One important change is that the installer now is universal, here is the information from the What’s New:

Starting with JAWS 2019 Public Beta 2, there is now one link to download and install JAWS for all supported operating systems and languages. You no longer have to choose the correct setup executable based on your system as well as which language you need. When you begin the setup, the installer automatically detects whether you are using 32 or 64-bit and installs the correct components. If you are doing a new install and you want to use a different language other than the default for your operating system, select the Options button on the first installation screen and then choose a language. If you are updating an existing installation, the Options button is not available as JAWS detects the language already installed and updates using the same language.

Other new features are the option to toggle off the confirmation message when you unload Jaws with Jaws Key+F4, if you uncheck this in Basic Settings Jaws just says “Unloading Jaws” and it’s gone (if you use advanced verbocity nothing is spoken).

If you use Office 365 there is a new option if you have spelling as you type enabled that Jaws plays a buzzer sound if a word is misspelled

If you want you can now have Jaws speak the character phonetically if you move character by character, you can choose the delay from I think 0.5 seconds, 1 second and 1.5 seconds or you can turn it off. I find it very useful and it’s very much like Voiceover in iOS where if you have the rotor set to Characters and you flick and wait a moment the character is spoken phonetically.

Audio ducking also works very well now especially with the Windows 10 1809 update which just came out.

I would urge everybody to use the headings quick nav keys to find the “Enhancements in JAWS 2019 Public Beta 2” and make sure you read through the entire list of new features and changes/fixes.

This is a very good update.

Regards,

Sieghard
