so, those mechanisms are just there to annoy the user?

no, they are there for a reason. if a document has an infection, the antivirus program will alert you that there is a possible infection where you can take the appropriate action. where as, if the mechanisms have been disabled, there's no opportunity for the user to do anything because he/she thinks it's okay because the AV didn't alert to anything suspicious. as for your documents, you wouldn't have to press the alt f i e at all because they are your documents, I should have specified in my previous post, "whether from an online (internet) sorce, trusted or not." I hope I haven't offended you because I find your replys on how to do this or that rather direct to get the job done, thus helping those who ask. -------- Original Message --------

So, if the document has an infection, it will possibly invade the system after protection has been suspended. This call doesn't make any sense. If I get documents, I want them all available for editing. I don't want to have to perform the same repetitive action on every document, every time I edit that same document. I use Microsoft Word to make tips files, and sometimes I edit the same document three or more times a day. I think it is not wise to disable the protection check boxes because if a document file happens to be infected that the antivirus/antimalware program doesn't know about or detect/catch, the document automatically releases the threat/infection because the protection has been disabled, and therefore having to deal with a potential headache trying to get rid of an infection that affects the entire system. it is I think, safer to "enable editing when ever it is needed to open/edit such a document file whether it comes from a trusted source or not. just, press, alt, f, i and e. if you can't bother to press the keystroke to enable editing, then the risk is your call. -------- Original Message -------- From: Bill White [mailto:billwhite92701@...] Sent: Tuesday, Aug 14, 2018 11:30 AM EST To: main@jfw.groups.io Subject: Reading and editing Mails in Outlook Office 365 Hi, Smart Eze.
