Re: grouped conversations in outlook 2010 with last version of jaws 2018

William,

I use conversations in both Outlook 2010 and in Outlook 2016 with JAWS 2018.  I  have rules set up to send all my JAWS User emails to a single folder with conversation threading so I can easily delete topics I don’t want to read.    Here are a couple ideas to be sure you are set up correctly.

  • When you first set up Outcook, the default is to organize emails into Groups.  Be sure this is turned off on the View ribbon.
  • On the view ribbon, check the box to show messages in Conversations.
  • On the File menu, go into Options, then Mail and be sure you check the box that says “do not automatically expand conversations when using a keyboard” or something like that.  There is no point in setting up conversation threading if you do not have this setting checked and arrowing up and down in your inbox will open threads automatically.
  • When arrow through your folder and find a message discussion you went to read, press enter or right arrow to expand the conversation.  I believe the focus then goes to the first message in that conversation if you arrange your folder with the earliest messages toward the top.  Hit enter on the message you want to read.  If you want to reply to that message, just hit Control R as you normally would.
  • One way you can tell if focus is on the thread header and not on a specific message is if you hear multiple sender names.  For example, I have my folder arranged so JAWS first reads the subject, then the sender name. If I hear a subject then two or more names of people, I can assume I am on the header and not on a specific message.
  • Left arrow will collapse a thread again.
  • If you press Delete on a thread header, you will be warned that you are deleting multiple messages.

I hope this helps.  I do find that I have more issues with expanding an collapsing threads in Outlook 2016, but it seemed to work well for me in Outlook 2010.

Robin

Subject: FW: grouped conversations in outlook 2010 with last version of jaws 2018

Hello,

Below a mail of the vfo support team about grouped conversations in outlook 2010.

It should be a problem on the microsoft side they say but anyway: are there any workarounds, scripts, or other procedures so that jfw-users can work with grouped conversations in outlook 2010?

And if not, is another version of microsoft office a better choice?

Thx for any suggestions.

hello,

thx for the answer.

some questions about your mail:

1 I am living in Belgium so calling to a american number is not that cheap and easy.

Do you have a online contact system?

2: why should the problem change if vfo/freedom scintific has already talked about that to help 1000 or more people over the world?3: is there a other mail program that works better with jaws in global and more specific with grouped conversations?

kind regards,

william windels

Subject: grouped conversations in outlook 2010 with last version of jaws 2018

Hello,

I am trying to group mailmessages in 1 specific mailfolder.

I tought I should see the following with jaws:

+ sign on the left of each row in the mail inbox when a tread is collapsed and a – sign when that tread is expende.

(this is the case when there are mailfolders with subfolders).

At the moment, I see a - sign next to a collapsed tread and nothing next to the messages in the tread.

I suppose I can reply/forward from a collapsed message or expanded message with the default outlook hotkeys ctrl+r, ctrl+shift+r or ctrl+f?

When going up/down with arrow keys in a mail-folder with collapsed and expanded treads:

I should use enter or arrow right /left to expand or colaps treads.

When entering on a collapsed tread, I expect that the most recent message is opened to read like with a message that is not in a collapsed list.

Any hints or setup assistance with mail-trads in outlook is very welcome.

Kind regards,

William Windels

William Windels
