Re: [Bulk] Authorizing JAWS on another computer

Hello there;

As I said,
After installing jaws on my formatted computer,
It was running in demo mode.

I didn't want to sacrifice a ILM Key,
So, I took the chance to copy the activator folder into the c:\programs
freedom scientific folder.
I wasn't sure of the result, but now, I do know.

As for the resetting the ILM keys,

I think FS makes a person wait at least 6 months, before his or her keys can
be reset.

Not 100% sure though.

David, did you compare the loocking code before and after formating?

Hello there;

Well, this subject is very interesting.
I did a full format of my computer,
However before I started the process,
I went into c:\programs\freedom Scientific And I save the activator folder.
Now, after the format was complete,
And I had the computer at the desktop,
I installed jaws,
Obviously it was running in demo mode.
So,

1, I unloaded jaws,

2, started narrator,

3, navigated to my external drive,

4, found the jaws activator program I previously saved,

Copied to clipboard,

5, navigated to, c:\programs\freedom scientific, And pasted the folder, And
said yes to copy and replace.

Once the copy was complete,

I unloaded narrator,
Started jaws,
And to my wondering surprise?
The jaws startup wizard appeared.
Yep?
I was out of demo mode,
And didn't sacrifice a IL MKey.
So, there you go,

Joni,

Good that you're set. However be sure to visit the FS Activate site and put
in an official request to increase the number of keys. You're down to 1 and
that also makes me nervous.

You may not get more, but then you won't know until you ask.

FS is in the habit of not adding keys until you're down to zero, and that's
very nerve-wracking.

Note that if you make any significant changes to your computer hardware
(such as a different or additional DVD burner) your hardware key will change
and JAWS will need to be reauthorized and another key is lost. I've gone
through 5 keys in the past two months due to getting a new laptop at work,
installing two new burners in my home computer, and setting up my wife's new
laptop.

FS has been a bit cranky and I just have one key for now until I start
behaving myself.

I managed to get it authorized. The 40-minute mode makes me nervous when I
am working with a new computer, new operating system and worrying about
being in the middle of something when JAWS needs a reboot.

The first time I did the ILM process I was on the phone with tech support,
so the procedure is not that familiar to me and I was afraid I would not get
it done correctly. Should have borrowed a Valium from that newly installed
JAWS voice I guess to make me calmer through the process.

Nice to end the day on a successful note.

Visit the FS Activate site. Have your JAWS serial number and 25-digit key
ready to input. I keep mine in a cheat text file so it's always handy.

Subject: Authorizing JAWS on another computer

I have JAWS installed on my current XP computer. I had to go to the fs
activate site to authorize it since the CD did not work when I tried that
method.

I have 2 keys left. I purchased a Windows 7 computer today. I installed
JAWS from the DVD. How do I go about authorizing it on the Windows 7
computer? Should I just visit the fs activate site? Do I need to type in
my activation/authorization code from the XP computer? This is the first
time I have had JAWS on multiple computers.

Also, when I get rid of the XP computer, do I just lose a key or can I
regain it somehow for future use?

Thanks.

Joni
