Re: Openbook and Jaws one last time

Dave...

Angel,

I think the point is that we already have OCR in JAWS, and that adding the
full functionality of Openbook to JAWS would increase the price to everyone.
The OCR in JAWS already fills the needs you are describing.

What reason would any of us blind people not want to own a basic ocr
program. When we require, each day, to have to be able to read printed
material?

Why would VFO incorporate all of the features of Open Book into JAWS, when
they can make more money selling each program separately? Do you think
anyone would spend $2000 for JAWS if it incorporated all of Open Books's
features? Not likely. VFO has never been known for its altruism, and
anyone who thinks that they will simply merge Open Book into JAWS and keep
the price of JAWS at $1000 is living in a dream world. Besides, many JAWS
users have no use for Open Book or even basic OCR capability, so why
should they be forced to pay extra for features they don't want or need?

"just incorporate all the features of Openbook into Jaws Convenient OCR."

as well as they should. why not? openbook is their OCR solution. one
thing I would want to change. FS should incorporate the best features of
Open Book... no sense to muck up what JAWS OCR can do welll now.

Thank you for your offer, but the ultimate issue is that I cannot save
anything scanned with either Openbook 1542 or 1757.

Freedom Scientific nor Microsoft figured out the issue, so no worries.
There is something very odd about my system. I'll probably get a new
computer in the next year or so and will see what happens with a
completely clean install unless Freedom Scientific does what I think
they are going to do and just incorporate all the features of Openbook
into Jaws Convenient OCR.
.

Thanks anyway,
Richard

Thanks,
Perhaps I'll try the old version. FS support has proven to be less than
helpful on this one.

No way to know, since you are trying to install an Openbook version a
lot more recent than mine. The one that installs for me is
OB9.0.1543ENU-32bit-64bit.EXE

At this point, wait for Monday and just call Freedom Scientific support
and talk to someone.

Hello,
I may have gotten very confused with the discussion recently about
conflicts with FreedomScientific OCR 64 and OpenBook 9.0.1757.403.

I thought there was an issue with that FS OCR 64 bit file being present
when Openbook was installed causing a problem.

So, since I had some time today, I removed that file and attempted to
install OpenBook again.
I got the error that a file was missing so Openbook couldn't be
installed. You guessed it, the FS OCR64 file has to be there.

Was it the OCR 32 that caused the problem or am I just too dense to get
this?

In any case, before I give up finally on Openbook, any sage advice would
be appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard
