Re: installing jfw without burning a key

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

I noticed that. What's more, that "defect" was also present in 12.
Hope that's it. Not that Jason wasn't extremely gracious, he was. I
just don't' want to go through that with every new installation, and, as
I skipped 12, my time will be up next time again.

Ted, see FS's list of revisions for the forthcoming JAWS 13 update.
Kimsan
posted it yesterday. Your problem may well have been a defect in JAWS.

Yes, I read about the UAC problem, but I run XP Media Center (read XP
Pro),
so I'm still at a loss. It's probably something in the startup or
services
group, something that gets in their early.

Hello there;

Not sure what the problem was:
However,
Jaws13 takes a little longer to install because of the OCR feature/files
needs to be downloaded, Also, if you tried to activate, not sure wich
version of windows, however, if it's vista, or win7, Maybe the UAC was
blocking the FSActivate process, as it did with one of my clients.
You can go to:

http://www.freedomscientific.com/_vti_Activate/FSActivate.asp

here you can find out how many keys you have remaining, before a reset.

I installed 13 yesterday, and had to get Jason to do a Tandem to get it
in.
Worse, I followed his suggestion and trashed my old authorization.
I imagine this means I'm out of keys, and will have to refill before I
can
install here at the office. The Tandem worked fine (yes, Virginia, you
can
do it on dial up), but I can't figure out where the block was, and have
no
guarantee it won't happen again next year. As I'm running XP Pro, the
solution put forth last week is inapplicable. It has to be something
small.

On the plus side, this looks to be lucky 13--really sweet. I had a
little
trouble with OCR, but finally realized Eric was using different settings
on
his machine. After reading the help screen several times, I finally
realized the whole thing had to be done with the JAWS cursor, which is
why
it kept saying JAWS cursor--talk about getting hit over the head. The
formatting was lousy on the Kenwood manual, and there were a lot of
typos,
but it worked! Boy, were you guys right about the default voice--sounds
like Julia Childes in drag!

Yes I did and I am back to one key as I just checked it right now as I
am
typing this message.

Peace!

Kimsan,

On the FSActivate site there is a link to fill out a form to request
that
your activation count be reinstated. Have you done that?

I don't even have jaws 12 installed.

All I have running on my machine is jaws and window eyes.
I just looked on the fs activate site and I have no activations left.
Oh well, I will just stick with whaaat I have.

Kimsan,

So you're saying that your JAWS 12 runs in 40-minute mode and you have
no
more activations left on the FSActivate web site?

IF so, it won't help your install of JAWS 13.

If you had previously saved your activation and authorization folders
from
your previous non-demo-mode JAWS 12 you could then recover them and JAWS
12
should then run normally.

If you have JAWS 12 running normally then installing JAWS 13 should not
require you to reactivate -- unless...you don't have any more SMA to
allow
you to run JAWS 13. If that is the case, the technique to not burn a key
will not help.

So I'm a bit confused with your question and your exact situation, as
you
can surmise.

I am wanting to know if I installed 13 and wanted to activate 12 without
burning a key would that make sense or will I need to install from the
oldest version to the most current one.

I am referencing the steps that someone provided a while back. I am
aware it
is not garenteed to work on a windows 7 machine but I got lucky last
time.

Why do I want 12 seeing as I have 13 running? No special reason, just
curious on how it would work if it would work.

Thanks.
