Re: stop JAWS announcing headers

Mario

I don't understand. I thought this announcement only pertains to JAWS
since it's JAWS that speaks. Excel has keystrokes to do the same thing?
what are they? please explain so I may understand.

Ok, that is the JAWS keystroke, I am trying to get into using the Excel
native keystroke to do the same thing.

selected the cells in a row that comprise the column headers and press
control+alt+insert+c to set row headers to be spoken, and select the
cells in a column that comprise the row headers to be spoken and press
control+alt+insert+r to set the row headers to be spoken.

Mario,
Don't know if this is the same issue for you, but my Excel 2016 (after a
recent update) began speaking row and column numbers while moving around
the spreadsheet even though my verbosity was set to cell contents only. I
called Freedom Scientific who said this was a new known problem and that it
would be corrected in the next Jaws update.
Not sure if this is your exact same problem, but it sounds similar.
I am using Win 10, Jaws 18 latest update, & Excel 2016.

I think you're confusing headers with headings? headings are h1, h2, h3,
etc.
and my problem is a JAWS issue where the setting of column and row headers
are spoken when I compose a different spreadsheet even though I haven't
setup JAWS to announce headers as I compose or navigate/read thru.

there must be a keystroke to affectively tell JAWS to unset the announcement
of column and row headers in a spreadsheet.

Are you using the same template? Once you set it in a spreadsheet I have not
found a way to stop it, perhaps try to save as and give it a slightly
different name and see if it still does it. Mayhap let us know what works
for you.

using Excel 2010, I have set JAWS to announce column and row headers as I
navigate a spreadsheet to facilitate in creating a record of an ongoing
issue. the problem I experience now when creating another spreadsheet for
something else, JAWS announces the column and row headers, even though I
haven't set JAWS to do so. quite confusing! how do I get JAWS to stop this.
