Re: Word 2016 and Auto Numbering

Hi Ted,

I'm not sure when it came in. You've always been able to press Enter twice and the numbering would go away, but in earlier versions of Word it didn't apply the Normal style, hence the need for pressing Ctrl + Shift + N, as Ed mentioned. When I tested it in 2016, I found that the second press of Enter applied the Normal style for me, making it more straight forward.

My goodness, is that a 16 feature, or has it been that easy for a while? I haven't had to do that kind of text lately. I mostly troubleshoot, and any text documents I fool with are at least semi-boilerplate.

Hi George,

Easiest way is to press Enter twice after the last item of the list. The first Enter creates a new numbered item, the second Enter changes that item to a standard paragraph; the number is removed and the style is changed to Normal. You don't get a blank line; if you press UpArrow you'll be on the last item of the list.

Hola!

I am using Word 2016 with JAWS 18+ on a Win10 machine.

How does one turn off auto numbering when creating a list of things within a document?

I've searched the various stupid Ribbons and thought that I found what to do, but apparently have not.

Thank you, all.
