Re: styles on MS word

Pablo Morales

Ok, I think that my problem is that I was misunderstanding the whole point.
When we insert headings pressing control+alt+1 or 2 or 3, we are creating
headings. However headings 1, 2, or 3 are styles.
I was confused because I was thinking that the styles are something that
provide a better appearance to a document, and I have tried some styles and
they don't have headings. So I was thinking, why is good do not use
headings?
But now I understand that headings inserted as manually or using the style
GroupBox, are the same thing.
Ok guys, forget my question, I was seeing the whole topic from the wrong
angle.

When creating a style you can change the text size, font, etc, for the
various headings as well.

They talk about headings level 1,2, and 3. Styles of this type work a little
bit different than other styles that I have seen.

The FS paid webinar with Word goes into styles quite a bit.

Yes, it is exactly what I am asking.
My concern about styles, is that to be able to use them, you need to know
how they looks like.
For a sighted people watch this is easy and great. But if we need to press
Insert + F on every title, paragraph, it could be a pain in our fingers. So
I don't know how efficient or convenient is to use styles on word documents.
I don't know, let me work on this more and see if I am able to fish more
benefits.
Thank you so much for your answer,

Indeed, I'm not sure what you are asking, but I'll assume that you want to
know the benefit of using styles. For simple documents, they really do not
do much, but if you create complex documents such as contracts or want to
ensure your documents look professional, styles are helpful, if not
essential.
If you are quoting a long passage and want it to be block indented one inch
from the left and right margins, you can produce that look with keystrokes,
or you could simply apply the "Block Indent" style.
If, in one contract, you want the progression to be Section 1, then Section
1.1, then (a), and then (i), you can set up your numbering styles
automatically to apply those numbers, and you can associate text font,
indent, and format characteristics for each style. The style applies until
a paragraph marker is encountered. When you apply styles that are set in
advance and known, you don't have to worry that the various paragraphs in
your document are formatted correctly. In JAWS, just press JawsKey plus f
to hear the style (or turn on automatic style enunciations).
Of course, you can create a whole array of templates with different styles,
just modifying the Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, and so on styles. In
one document, Heading One might be "ARTICLE I." In another, it might be
Section 1. You can have multiple styles in one template document.
Finally, styles, I am told, are more enduring than are free form formatting
codes. I don't know whether that is true, but that was the official
Microsoft line when the legal world was converting from Word Perfect to MS
Word.

Hi all,
I am not 100% sure about the styles on MS Word. Let me explain to you what I
am trying to ask.
We are able to create paragraph formats on text with some keystrokes, we are
able to create headings level 1,2,3, and so on. All of these with some
keystrokes.
What is the real benefit of the use of styles already design over these
keystrokes?
Thank you so much,
