Re: Firefox49

I think you mean this:

Use a background service to install updates Alt+Shift+b

I kept looking for "maintenance service" but this is all I have.

I think Peter may be right, maybe version 49 is not pushed out via automatic updates yet because no matter what I do I am on 47.0.1. Anyhow, I'm sure it will pdate sooner or later, in the meantime I don't use it often enough to spend more time on this, it's not like version 47 doesn't work.

You may have unchecked it in the past. It is right after the combo box which asks you about checking for updates, either:

Always install updates,

Check for Updates, but let me install them, or Never Check for Updates.

Where do you find the Mozilla Maintenance Service checkbox? There is

something about a third party something, but I see nothing about Mozilla

Maintenance Service on that update options page.

Hi, Mario. This doesn't work for me. I must choose "Never Check For Updates

before I see an Update button, plus I must uncheck the box which has the

Mozilla Maintenance Service run in the background.

You don't have it set to Never Check For Updates on the Updates page of

Options, or it would have a Check For Updates button.

Thanks, Bill, I did this and there is no update button, when I used

Convenient OCR on the About screen it came out a bit jumbled, but it seemed

to say somewhere that Firefox was up to date. However, when I use Jaws

Key+Control+V Jaws tells me my version is 47.0.1 and when I just went to the

Firefox download page and downloaded the installer it has a file name of "

Firefox Setup Stub 49.0.1".

Oh well, stranger things have happened and I'll just install that latest

version from the installer.

Sieghard

Hi, Sieghard. You don't need to go anywhere to force an update check.

Simply press ALT plus the letter H to reach the help menu. Following this,

press the letter A to reach the "About" dialog. Once this page loads, if

your updates are set to "Never Check for Updates", you will see a Check for

Updates button. It will already be focused on this button. Just press the

Space Bar to start a check for updates. Then you will either get a notice

that you can update, or you will hear silence.

If you hear silence, you already have the latest version of Firefox. If you

see an Update button, press the Space Bar again. Once the update has

downloaded, you will get a notice to restart Firefox. Press the Space Bar

again, and Firefox will reload with the latest updated version.

I have had occasions when I opened Firefox and it told me it was doing and

update and would restart. Anyhow, if it can be set to manual, where do I go

to force a check for updates?

Firefox will only update itself if that option is checked, and if the

Firefox Maintenance Service is running in the background.

sit there nothing happens.

And you would make your computer vulnerable to security issues fixed in more

recent versions, too. For your own protection, just don't do that.
