Turn back the clock on Windows

If you're like a lot of people, you might still be hanging on to Windows XP.
It's got a familiar interface and runs just fine on your older hardware.
Unfortunately, that can't last forever.

At some point you'll need to upgrade your computer, and you'll get Windows
7. Perhaps you already upgraded a few years back and you're stuck with
Windows Vista. In that case, you might be missing good old XP.

Well, I'm not going to tell you to downgrade. Vista and 7 are much better
operating systems for security and stability. Plus, they run better on newer
computer hardware. So, you're going to need to stick with them.

That doesn't mean you can't do some customizing. That's the point of the
program Classic Shell. This program adds and replaces items in the Vista and
7 interface to be more like XP.

There are three major components to Classic Shell: Classic Explorer, Classic
Start Menu and Classic IE9. You can mix and match which ones you want to

Classic Explorer adds XP's toolbar back to Vista explorer windows, along
with the useful Up button for moving through folders. It also adds back the
bottom status bar and changes the newer file copy dialog box back to the XP

Classic Start Menu gives you Windows XP's Start Menu. You can customize it
with several included skins to change the look and functionality. To edit
how Start Menu works, go to Start>>Programs>>Classic Shell>>Start Menu
Settings. This is also where you can find controls for the other two
programs as well.

Finally, there's Classic IE9. This brings back Web page titles, several
status bar icons and a few other useful interface options.
