Have you tried seeing if the same happens with the built in sound. I'm
assuming there is built in sound?

I'd ask myself what else happens at the same time every day. For example,
are you running anything automatically in the background--antivirus,
antispyware, software updates, etc?

It seems that at approximately 3:00 CDT every day, the USB card into which
I plug in my headset goes silent while I am using JAWS.
I have found that all I have to do is unplug the card, tap the ESCAPE key
to see if JAWS is talking, and plug it in again.
Sometimes it will stop again, but if I repeat the process, all is well
again.
This probably isn't a JAWS issue, but I'm not really sure.
I'm using a ThinkPad 420 -- brand new.
Anyone have any ideas?
