Re: Registry Cleaner

It cleans out junk--bits and pieces from old programs. Windows programs uninstall routines usually rely on the uninstall protocol in Control Panel, which is not thorough. So your registry gets gunked up with references to programs that are no longer physically there. Even a JAWS clean uninstall, which I suspect is more thorough than most, will leave things like a talking installer, FS Reader, Etc.

Forgive me for the question, what is a registry cleaner and why would I run one?

Thanks

I was able to uninstall those culprits through control panel in WIN7. As usual, I didn't pay enough atttention to the check boxes!

Thanks a bunch, but, for my own protection, the cyber cops are blocking
the download! What about that site that specializes in JAWS-friendly
programs (I should have bookmarked that thing)? Anybody know what I'm
talking about?

, Dave. I thought I had an old copy of that, but must have deleted it.
It should be fairly easy to find with a search. I'm still trying to get
rid of the remnants of AVG, that system restore fixed JAWS, but really
did a number

on me. I found some more physical remains last night, and deleted
them, but

I don't touch the registry by hand. Norton once had a good cleaner, but
the last time I used it it went postal! I haven't trusted the category
since.

Some time ago we were discussing what was supposed to be a dandy, safe
registry cleaner. I thought I kept the thread (you should see my
mailbox), but can't find it now. I think it began with the letter W.
