Can you explain your clear preference for Window Eyes over Jaws?

I am open to all thoughts and ideas here.

I've used both screen readers, and for me personally, I feel window eyes is
the better of the two hands down. RJ

Window-Eyes does come with a version of eloquence that can be used as
the default speech.
I have both installed on my computers and have not had any issues at
al as only use one or the other at one time of course.
There's going to be a bit of a learning curbed as the commands are
different between the two screen readers.

I myself don't care for the Microsoft voices. I'm so use to eloquence.

Tom,

As a general rule, there is no conflict between screen readers. They
merely reside in the computer.

Also, after years of working with various screen readers, might I
suggest NVDA. Unfortunately eloquence cannot be used with it, but the
Microsoft voices aren't too bad.

I have tried several times over the years to really get into window
eyes, including the latest version with MS Office. I've found its
control panel to be confusing. Also, I find it to be a little clunky on
the web.

That's just my two cents based on experience. Others here may feel
differently.

Hello, again.

In an attempt to have an alternative to Jaws, I'm seriously
considering putting Window Eyes on at least one computer here.

However, I have heard from several sources that having two screen
readers on the same computer can create real issues, if things are not
done properly.

Also, can I configure Window Eyes to work with Elloquence, which is
what Jaws currently uses?

Finally, I'd like to know how much of a learning curve is going to be
involved with learning to use Window Eyes, especially since I have
been a Jaws user for about the last 20 years.

My time to learn a new speech screen reader is limited, although I
will certainly try to do so if it would be in my best interest.

If this post is considered to be "off topic" for this list, I want to
apologize in advance to the moderator and other list members. I
simply don't know where else to ask this question, given the various
e-mail lists to which I belong.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan
