No I have my douts it will. I see a lot of these companys are most likely getting them selves in quite a jam. Therefore they are trying to wheel and deal with MS office. A lot of the state aigencys seems to back Freedom Scientific equipment at least they did in Ct and Iowa.

Hi Nicole, When the original blurb came across about GW Micro there were some caveats about "support". I never followed any of them up but it appeared to me that the "free" version came with little or no support. You could, of course, purchase a maintenance agreement and have full support. Now, after I posted the thing about Microsoft running off other companies I gave it more thought and you do have a valid point. It will be most interesting to see which snake crawls in bed with which other snake. (LOLLOLLOL) I suspet that several companies may well be looking down the gun barrel wondering when the bullet will come flying out. (LOLLOL) Someone mentioned Sendaro and I wlso wonder how long they can survive charging a grand for a navagation system which can be had for very little or even free on the iPhones and other i-devices. I did notice a special offer from Sendaro for the Braille Notes but have not looked into it either. I can safely say that the future should be most interesting indeed. I have not renewed my SMA with Fs and mnay not ever do so. Cy

Subject: RE: Screen Readers The big question I keep coming back to is how GW Micro, which is structured as a for profit company, is going to make any money from giving it away for free to use with Office. I understand their angle, that they might get people to buy it if they get used to using it with Word et al, but I don't think that's going to work how they want it to. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:jfw-bounces@...] On Behalf Of Londa Peterson via Jfw Sent: Friday, May 09, 2014 12:59 PM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Hi Kimber,
I haven't tried the free Window-eyes offer yet, but I'm reading mixed reviews on the various lists I'm on. Some people really love it, but others are having major issues. I guess that's why I haven't tried it yet. In other words, I don't think you're alone.

Just as a point of information with no judgment intended, I recently purchased Office 2013 and thought I'd take advantage of the free Window Eyes offer to take it for a test drive. Aside from the fact I found the command structure rather confusing, window eyes consistently crashed my laptop. This happened so often I decided to take it off my system and won't be returning to it any time soon.
Your milage, as they say, may vary. But I'm curious to know if this happened because the two screen readers were vying for the eloquence synthesizer? Or is there some other inherent conflict between JFW and WE?
I have since chosen to use NVDA as my backup screen reader for when Jaws takes a dive.
Thoughts?

Just a heads up, I've been asked to try and use the jaws set AP within

GW Micro is also making window eyes available in the maimn menu of Microsoft products. Eventually, at this rate, all of us will be using
window eyes. Judith

I absolutely agree with you in this. With government funding getting shorter and shorter FS may have problems selling their wares to their largest client. Cy

No matter how scrittable Narrator becomes, it will never be as functional or feature-rich as JAWS or Window Eyes. If any screen reader is in trouble, it may be JAWS, not Window Eyes. As long as FS continues to charge upwards of
$1000 for JAWS and makes absolutely no concessions to make it more affordable like GW Micro has with Window Eyes, it is in more danger of
going under than GW Micro.

Indications are that Window Eyes is also on its way down the chute. This move to offer it free with Office is a desperation maneuver, and
since Narrator will (hopefully, if the reports are correct) be scriptable in Windows 9 it doesn't look good for GW Micro. Jaws will probably hang on a bit longer thanks to existing scripts and legacy programs, but this is not good news for any add-on screen reader company.

Well, Serotek is still in business, so I guess System Access is
till
around, but who knows for how long? Now that Mike Calvo is gone, and Window Eyes is being offered free to users of Office 2010 and 2013, not to mention NVDA, which is also free, it is hard to see
how
Serotek can remain a viable competitor in the cscreen reader
market.

there also is the built in one in Windows called narrator, which I would like to purchase something to replace MS Anna, like Lequendo's Allison.

Thunder used to read MS Access when JAWS wouldn't. The voice is awful, but it was a good reader. At 06:51 AM 5/9/2014, you wrote:

Non Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) from nvaccess.org is the only one that I know of that's free, but a donation is encouraged.
