Re: Edit Fields

Judith,

Did you try to use the up and down arrows to read the google edit field?
This should be done before you decide to press the enter key.

Thanks Dave! I just tried this out in Google. Now can you tell me why I
can't read back what I typed in edit fields? Thanks, Judith

Judith,

This may be a matter of method, in your case. Recall that when you tab to an
edit field, you may hear a sound. That sound may be indicating that you have
reached an edit field, and that it is active, awaiting some text to be
typed. If you press the Enter key before you actually type some text, you
will indeed be likely launched to some other place on the web page. What is
happening in that case, is that the web page is presuming that you have
typed something (in this case nothing) and is processing that non-input. The
result is of course completely dependent on the web page and how it reacts
to the input.

So make sure that when you encounter an edit field, that you have not
already entered the mode where it is expecting an input. Pressing the Enter
key may either activate an edit field that is not already active, or close
out the text entry and launch the result.

I've also had a hard time with edit fields on the web. If I hit enter I end
up in a different place on the site, certainly not the edit box I started
pressing the space bar and that works, sometimes. Also when filling out
fields on the web and they ask for something like my email address jaws
doesn't read back what I wrote. I have windows 7 and jaws 14. Judith

Hi,
if you want back the behaviour for jaws 9, do the following. you ssaid, you
upgraded to latest version, so it should be jaws 15. let's do this:
1. find the jaws window (insert j).
2. press alt+u to open the utilities menu.
3. find setting centre (or press e).
4. in the search box, type "forms" (without the quotes.) 5. press down
arrow, jaws says "forms mode."
6. press down arrow again, jaws should say, "select forms mode (auto or
manual) auto"
7. press space bar to change this option to manual.
8. now press tab to ok button and activate it with space bar.
9. hope this works!

Hello Everyone,

I recently installed the latest version of JAWS on my Windows 7 machine.
I was using JAWS 9 before upgrading.
So, I'm really finding it very hard to interact with edit fields on
webpages in Firefox. Many a time, when I try to type something in an edit
field, JAWS loses focus. The JAWS cursor always keeps moving from one place
to the other on its own.
Sometimes, JAWS works perfectly, but this problem arises very often.
Is there any sure-fire method to interact with edit fields effectively?

Best,
Rahul
