Hi Jane,

Here's what you do to install 7zip. First, double click on the application file that you downloaded. Then, click "yes" at the UAC dialogue , and follow the remaining on screen instructions to install the program. When prompted to select if you would like to create a desktop icon, and/or to run the application from the system tray, be sure to uncheck both of these boxes. Just go ahead and finish the installation. When this is done, navigate to the "Program Files" folder, open it, and open the 7 Zip folder. Scroll down to the application file named either "7zipfm" or "7zfm". Right click on this file, and click on either "Create a shortcut" or "Send to". If you use "Send to", open this item and find and click on "Desktop (create short). Now, the installation is complerted. From this point forward, the .zip files that you download will appeare as 7zip files. To unzip one of these files, navigate to the file in your default download location, and right click on the file. Click on "Extract all." This will open 7 Zip, and you will be prompted to specify where you want to extract the folder to. By default, it will be extracted to the same folder where it currently resides, and a new file folder will be created there with the extracted files in it. Or, you can choose to extract them to another location if you wish. To do this, in the field where it has the path to the current folder, just type in the new location, I.e. x:\myextractedfiles\, where x is the letter of the drive to where you want to send the files. That's it! I hope this helps you to get 7 Zip up and running. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to post again.

Am afraid I am quite the novice. I have downloaded the 7zip program, and it
is in my download folder. Now, must I install it; if so, how do I accomplish
this....step-by-step please.

Yes, with 7zip, you select multiple files, then use the Applications key, or
on a laptop without the Applications key, use F10, then arrow down to
"Extract to *.*".

Thank you.

Can you do multiple files all at once with either winzip or 7zip? If so,
do
you just select more than one file at once?

Hi, Jane. You can also unzip multiple files by using a program for Windows
called 7zip. If you have 7zip installed, press the Applications key and
arrow down to "Extract to *.*".

The Two stars with the dot in the middle signify "To their own folder".

Thank you.

I am new on this list. Somebody has told me that one can unzip multiple
files simultaneously as from BARD. If this is accurate, how is such
accomplished.
