Yes, and it will go through as such -- copy the file, not the text from the
file. If you go to the directory where the file is located and press
Control+C then press Control+V in the document you can hit Shift+Tab
Control+which
will take you up from the body of the message to the Attachment line, and
you should find the file name listed there. This tells you the attachment
works.
I use this all the time in Office 2007 and I used it in Office 2003 and
prior versions dating back a very long time. (I avoid any ribbons whenever
possible by using shortcut keys) But this procedure shouldn't paste the text
of the file into your email, it should attach the entire file.

The easiest way is to copy the file you want to send and then paste it
into the message. There's specific commands to do this as well, but
I've found the copy and paste method is faster and easier.
