If you go to the directory where the file is located and press Control+C then press Control+V in the document you can hit Shift+Tab Control+which will take you up from the body of the message to the Attachment line, and you should find the file name listed there. This tells you the attachment works. I use this all the time in Office 2007 and I used it in Office 2003 and prior versions dating back a very long time.
