Re: Using Express Scribe with JAWS

The problem is quite the opposite. I don't need to boost the dictation, I
need to boost the volume of JAWS. I use an audigy CS2 for sound. I've
enabled the onboard sound . If I can get JAWS assigned to the onboard sound
and fine a long cord to use with a set of ear buds along with regular
headphones, I'll be fine until I get Windows 7.

One other thing to try that I forgot. If the audio of the file is too low,
go to the File Menu and arrow up to Special Audio Processes. Press enter on
Extra Audio Boost. Let it run whatever it does to the file. You may want to
do it several times depending on the original recording levels. This will
bring the audio of the file up, and then Jaws won't blast your ears off.

I had completely forgotten about that. Thanks for the clue.

I suspect the separate volume adjustment would work better under Windows 7
and probably 8. In another message, you mentioned that you are using
Windows XP. Separate volume adjustment is not usually possible with XP
unless the program supports some special type of Direct Sound output such as
in Winamp.

I'm trying to use Express Scribe, which is transcription software,
with JAWS. The volume controls in Express Scribe will not operate
separately from my speech output.

Short of buying another sound card, reassigning JAWS to it and trying
to have dictation going in one ear and computer speech into my other
ear, is there a way to separate the JAWS volume from the dictation volume?
