Jaws utility mode

Robert Logue <bobcat11@...>

I'd like to learn more about Jaws utility mode. I couldn't find it in Jaws help. I tried the keyboard combination Jawskey + win +numpad - but nothing happens.
I remember they called this something else in older versions. Wasn't it used as a scripting tool? I never did get into Jaws scripting but am a bit curious.

I know you can change the punctuation level if you have the utility
mode on, but I'm not sure what effect that has, exactly.

You can try it by:

1) Enter utility mode (jaws + win + mum pad -)
2) Use the up or down arrow keys to change to the punctuation level you want
3) Leave utility mode (jaws + win + num pad -)

I just tried the above in a program that I have set to speak all
punctuation, changed to none and then had it speak some text. As far
as I can tell it didn't make any difference. Yet when I tried the
same thing again it remembered the punctuation level I had set,
perhaps it only applies the punctuation level to the utility mode.
I'm certainly not aware of any other way to change the punctuation
level without going through the voice profile screen.

Hello,
character's \145 and \146 are defined as &rsquo.
I was looking at an asky cheat sheet and both 145 and 146 are defined as an

apostrophe.
I have no idea how that happened but I think it is wrong.

Soronel,

By the way, isn't there a keystroke to dynamically change the punctuation I

have no idea how to fix this.

level? I sure can't remember it.

And yes, his original message has the apostrophes embedded, but my speech
does not read them unless I go character-by-character.

Why would that have jaws speak punctuation that isn't actually present
though?

Your punctuation is set to all or most. You need to set it to some.

Hello,
I think I posted this a while back, but I never figured out how to fix
this.
In every application, Jaws says Apostrophe too many times. for example
'hello' said john
I hear: apostrophe hello Apostrophe Apostrophe said john.
What gets really annoying is when you have something like:
'orange' 1 'apple' 2 'pizza' 3.
There are way to many Apostrophes in there!
Thanks,
