Re: System image and anti-virus software for Windows 8

Hi Ted,
My XP machine was a Dell and I also used a wireless keyboard as I didn't
like having to use the laptop layout for JAWS.
About all I can say about the HP laptops is that there a couple of places on
the top of the keyboard just under the screen which turn on and off all
kinds of things and those places seem to be heat sensative.
You don't have to press anything, just pass your hand across the area and
you have had it. (LOLLOLLOL)
My wife has a year newer HP than I do and her keyboard on the laptop itself
is set to make the F keys media ready. F7 does not call on the spell
checker. (LOLLOLLOL)
I am migrating to a MacBook Pro so, hopefully, I will leave the world of
JAWS behind.

Man, I don't know what happened, but it had to be really BIOS- or
hardware-specific, but it was real! We swapped out the batteries, and were
at our wits end, when I decided to do the obvious and undo the last change,
which was MSE. I guess I didn't mention the keyboard is wireless, if that
made any difference.

Hi,
I have used MSE on my XP laptop for some time and had no problems.
I now use MSE on myW7 HP 64 bit laptop and it works quite well.

Just one caveat. I think my experience was fairly unique, but Essentials
totally disabled the keyboard on my HP, running XP. It was so bad, I needed
sighted assistance uninstalling it. I never tried to find out what
happened; once was more than enough.

I would suggest Security Essentials from Microsoft but it does not work on
Windows 8. alternately, Windows 8 does come with a modified version of MSE
which is compatible with Windows 8 and is called Windows Defender.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a system image /backup and anti virus software solution
compatible with JAWS and Windows 8.
I have asked people who recommended Norton Ghost, but on investigation it is
not compatible with Windows 8.
Also, I have used Avast in the past for a anti virus solution, so I'm just
curious is there anything better?
I am seeking this information because I am purchasing a new laptop for my
Masters programme and I want to future proof it.
Any information /suggestions are very welcome.
Kind regards,
Niall
