Subject: Campaign to make Spotify totally accessible Hello, AppleVis is hosting a campaign to make Spotify accessible on all platforms. Their focus is IOS products, but they are adding other platforms into the equation. Here is the link to the campaign page: http://www.applevis.com/blog/advocacy/announcing-our-new-campaign-month-spot ify I wrote an email detailing all 4 platforms where as the email they have only talks about two or three. Please feel free to take a cleaver to my message and use it to send information to them. The email spotify above is really easy. You just paste in your message if you don't like their current message and hit send. my message: Hello, I am writing to ask that you provide blind and low vision users with fair and equal access to the Spotify music streaming service. I currently have used Spotify on Android, IOS and Windows. The only app that comes close to total accessibility is the IOS app. The other platforms could do with some major improvement. I truly appreciate the improvements that you have made to VoiceOver support in your iOS app. However, there are still a number of unlabeled or oddly labeled buttons and the "What's New" section of the app is particularly inaccessible. These issues with the iOS app should not in fact be too difficult to address, so I hope that you will consider prioritizing them. The Android app is full of unlabeled buttons and just for practical purposes; there is way too much swiping around to move through settings, options and other track interactions. If the buttons, like the play/pause button, could be named and the track interaction settings could be placed in an easy to get to location, that would increase accessibility 10 fold. The Windows Application is the most inaccessible out of the three platforms I have tested. This is very sad because it is probably the most important. There are currently scripts to work with the most popular screen reader Jaws for Windows at: http://www.spotifyblind.com/ However, with the amount of updates you have been doing to Spotify, these scripts have been constantly breaking. I would highly suggest contacting John Marten at: support@... And work with him to create a totally accessible spotify application. Although I have not personally tested it, I have been told your Mac application remains completely inaccessible and your web player has a number of significant issues when used with a screen-reader. This means that your iOS app is currently the only available option that comes close to providing me with an accessible means of using your service. Personally, I am more than happy to pay for a premium subscription and currently do, but I don't see why I should then be denied the full premium service. It is also an issue that sighted users have four different subscription options, but the vision-impaired only have the one (and as I said, they then don't even receive the full service). I would ask, therefore, that you endeavor to make your service fully accessible on all supported platforms to those of us who rely on screen readers, and that you do so as a matter of some urgency. Not only would this be a good commercial decision, but it would also simply be the 'right' thing for Spotify to do. I would appreciate having full and equal access to the Spotify service, and am willing to provide further feedback as needed. I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter and hope to hear that you are working on this problem soon! With warm regards, Brandon Thank you, Brandon Keith Biggs -----Original Message----- From: Kelby Carlson Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2013 1:28 PM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. Just search for Thomas Hampson and he should pop up. Sorry I can't help much more. The button on the top of the page is what you want. It does take a while though for the play list to load. You make sure what you are right clicking on has both "go to" and go to replacement. You want to hit enter on go to. I'm not sure what go to replacement does. Also, the track name you want to right click on is at the bottom of the window, it will have your current playing time, than one arrow up and that or the one above is what you want to right click on. Also note that all the track names are probably the same when arrowing through the play list, you will need to either hit enter to see if they are the same, or look at their time. I hit ctrl A, add to a new play list and hit tab, go to that new play list and hit play, click the go to option and I can see all the tracks in my play list. Let me see the play list that you are looking at and I can see if I can get it working if it doesn't work for you. If you want to use the arrow keys, you can't have the control in the command, so it would be shift end or arrow key up. I search for play lists that have already been made and just copy the play list, or go and move the whole Opera to a separate play list and delete the tracks from the larger play list of a hundred Operas. There is an app called Classify that sorts classical albums correctly. There is also the website: http://www.spotifyclassical.com/ That gives lots of already made playlists. If you open the play list in your web browser, click on play, go to spotify, right click (using the Jaws curser) on the currently playing track, click go to, then select all and right click and add to a play list, you can have all those tracks on your play list. I then break them into smaller chunks and put them in my Opera folder. But I'm sure there is a much better way to do this, this is just how I found to do it while the new scripts were being developed. I haven't used the latest scripts. Spotify Blind is a little slow when navigating to different areas because Spotify itself is slow. It helps if all your configurations match those outlined in the recommended settings. I love my premium account because I can download whole Operas on my phone to listen to. I am going through the Ring now, and the whole ring CD set is anywhere between $45-200, so I'm getting an amazing deal for basically less than $10. Granted I don't get the CD to keep, but if I continue with the subscription, I will be able to listen to all my favorites when ever. I basically call Spotify the Bookshare of music. You have to use FB to sign up I believe. If you get fed up with not understanding what is on the screen, just use the Jaws curser and click on the title of the track and whatnot. Also, the search results do take a little while to load, especially if there are lots or none. Try something that will have medium track results like Bryn Terfel, or l'heure exquise.
