Well, I hate to tell you but I am using Word 2007 and this nonsense is a
fairly recent thing.
I would venture that the last couple of months at the longest.

I too have been having the issue of inserting new text in the wrong place in
Word; I have the track pad locked, so I don't think that that is the issue
for me. I've only had this problem since updating to Word 2010. This never
happened to me before in older versions of Word using the same machine.
I've found that there are several functions in Word 2010 that either aren't
as stable as in older versions of Word, or that I haven't found the
equivalent for. One example in the latter category is that I used to be able
to use JAWS key plus page down to learn the page number, line number that
the cursor was at, and how far in the cursor was on that line.
Anyone know how to get this info in Word 2010? Now JAWS key plus page down
just gives me the page number and number of words.
But I do find the cursor jumping when cutting or pasting or otherwise adding
new text to be really annoying; I now can't count on the cursor being where
I last left it, and I still get surprised to find things in the wrong place.

David sound advice to anyone but most of this I have already tried.
The touch pad is never on as when friends need to help me they just plug
in the mouse.
I have been on remote support and have had patches to try and fix the
problem but without success, so hope in future versions things might get
better.
My husband has the same set up on a desk top but doesn't have all the
issues I have on a laptop..
I can only conclude laptops are female and touchy.
Take care

Hi Hazel.
I don't know that I have the answer for you, but I have had a Toshiba
laptop
and I am now on my third Dell laptop and I have had the same problem with
all four of them with the curser jumping all over the place.

The keyboard on all my laptops were configured in the following way.
1. A small round button between and at the bottom of the G & H key's.
2. Below the space bar a right and left mouse click buttons.
3. Below those buttons the touchpad.
4. Below the touchpad, another right and left mouse click buttons.

Now, this is where it gets interesting. On the touchpad and that little
button between the G & H key's, if tapped, have the same effect as a mouse
click resulting in your curser being sent where ever.
In the touchpad settings, there are several options of which features to
turn off or on.
On some of my laptops, I have had to have sighted assistance to properly
set
these features.

On one of my laptops the vibration of typing on the keyboard would
activate
the mouse button.
May I suggest that you open a new document, type a sentence, know where
your
curser is and double tap the mouse pad and see if your curser has changed
locations.
If you are using an external keyboard, all the above do not apply.
If you are not using an external keyboard, you could give that a try.

Have you checked your display settings?
Have you contacted Jaws support?

I am convinced that there is a fix for this problem. On the positive side,
it produces patience.

activated.
The mystery continues.

Hi Hazel.
Just wondering, are you using a laptop? If so, the touchpad could be

Hello to all you Jaws users.
I have just joined the group and wonder how things are coming along
with the issue of the Jaws cursor moving all over the place .
I have used Jaws for some time and at present using version 13 on
Windows 7 but this aspect of the software is driving me crazy at times.
Are the latest versions any better as before spending out more money I
need to know if this has been taken into account .
Another very annoying thing is when you are writing anything and arrow
up to re read the words can be scrambled in which you have to abandon
and start again.
Surely software at high cost should have undertaken to assure these
basic functions work well.
Yes we have tried other screen readers but these have proved not to
our taste at all.
I hope to hear some positive feedback.
Take care
Hazel
