Thanks for this, I've found this feature to be so helpful, and I was sad when the keystroke I knew no longer provided the same information. I couldn't figure out the laptop equivalent for this, so I went on another Google search; the Freedom Scietific list of keystroke commands didn't list this anywhere, as far as I can tell. An Arizonan website led me to the correct information for laptops, which is JAWS key (Caps Lock) + the delete key. (I'm wondering if the JAWS key + Delete also works in the desktop version, and may have been what you were referring to with Insert + Period?) Sometimes it's very difficult to find information through Freedom Scientific, even though their help sections have been greatly improved. Also, for me, the JAWS key + F gives me the point size, font name, line info (centered, right, left etc) and whether the line is indented from the margin. I don't get information on where a specific character is in relation to the left margin -- which I think is what you're suggesting? As a bonus, here's the website that led me to the right answer. It's very basic, but as I said, contained info I couldn't find anywhere on the Freedom Scientific page. http://www.atarizona.com/docs/Blind/BVI_JAWScommands.htm -----Original Message-----

Subject: RE: Laptops Was: new member Lisa, For line and column number in Word 2010, press JAWS key with the numpad period. That is, using the PC keyboard layout, press insert and the key immediately to its right. With insert-f, I get distance from the left and other margins measured in inches. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:jfw-bounces@...] On Behalf Of Lisa Larges Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 4:37 PM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Subject: RE: Laptops Was: new member I too have been having the issue of inserting new text in the wrong place in Word; I have the track pad locked, so I don't think that that is the issue for me. I've only had this problem since updating to Word 2010. This never happened to me before in older versions of Word using the same machine. I've found that there are several functions in Word 2010 that either aren't as stable as in older versions of Word, or that I haven't found the equivalent for. One example in the latter category is that I used to be able to use JAWS key plus page down to learn the page number, line number that the cursor was at, and how far in the cursor was on that line. Anyone know how to get this info in Word 2010? Now JAWS key plus page down just gives me the page number and number of words. But I do find the cursor jumping when cutting or pasting or otherwise adding new text to be really annoying; I now can't count on the cursor being where I last left it, and I still get surprised to find things in the wrong place. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:jfw-bounces@...] On Behalf Of Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS) Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 9:34 AM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. The touch pad is never on as when friends need to help me they just plug in the mouse. I have been on remote support and have had patches to try and fix the problem but without success, so hope in future versions things might get better. My husband has the same set up on a desk top but doesn't have all the issues I have on a laptop.. I can only conclude laptops are female and touchy.
