Re: Only Two Solutions to Solve Captchas

Here's a thing to consider. If the OCR technology to reliably solve a

captcha existed, that would only translate to the captcha developers inventing a better captcha. It's happened before, and will happen again. It's also why WebVisum can't always solve every captcha you throw at it. Because the same technology screenreaders, WebVisum and the like would be relying on would be just as available to an aspiring spambot. The only real alternative, which a couple deaf blind friends of mine are pushing for, is a captcha alternative. They do exist, and in fact I've thought about implementing one for my admitedly not as frequently updated blog. But the truth is, until a standard comes along that replaces captcha, adaptive tech will be competing with spammers, who are competing with the captcha developers. If the spammers lose, more often than not, so will the adaptive tech.

Subject: Only Two Solutions to Solve Captchas Hello again everyone, There are only two solutions that will work for us in our book to solve captchas. They are: 1. Including a captcha solver in screen reading products and: 2. Encourage Web and application developers to use captcha alternatives. Perhaps what FS and company has failed to consider is that there could be legal and lotgistical issues waiting to be sprung on them if they continue to refuse to add a captcha solver to JFW. They'd be damned if they did and damned if they didn't! Sorry guys but this is something I'm very passionate about. If this new Web tool is a subscription service I would not buy it unless a captcha solver was included. Web Vism is a good tool but if you don't want to be married to FireFox a cross-browser and application captcha solution is necessary. I recently encountered a software application that requires you to enter a 4-character code displayed for 60 seconds in order to perform a few tasks. Luckily there are only 4 of them and there something you wouldn't perform daily unless your job required it. I encouraged the developer to add anoption to disable that captcha in future releases of this software. This is not an Internet front-facing application so one wonders why the captcha is even there in the first place. As for audio captchas how many deaf-blind people do you know that could use an audio captcha? My wife has normal hearing and she had trouble hearing the characters spoken that's how badly garbled they were. Perhaps the new Web tool would have the ability to remove background noise and improve the quality of the audio making them easier to understand. My wife will be home soon so I'll wind this up for now. All the best for a great weekend.
