Re: Glad to Hear

Dave...

JM,

Yes, for those who continue with SMA these annual releases can be evaluated
and tossed. But for others who let the SMA lapse the cost to upgrade is very
high. The luxury of choosing is expensive. Still I agree that whether to
upgrade or not is a choice --- but it is a choice with some penalties either
way.

What version have you decided to stay with?
I'm still with 13.0.924.

And has anyone wondered why the "0" never seems to change? What happened to
that? I started with 3.5. Not 3.0.5. I guess major or significant patches
don't happen anymore.

I do agree with this. But remember, nobody has to upgrade just because an
upgrade is available. I tend not to, myself, unless I hear about some
glorious new feature that I absolutely must have, right now! Want to guess
how often that happens? lol

Stick with what works.

Sometimes it seems like, with JAWS, it is one step forward and two steps
back.
Case in point.
Reading a track change document with JAWS 13, there is no indication of
what was inserted or what was deleted. A critical issue.
Read the same exact document with JAWS 12 (with the same track change
settings in effect in both Word and JAWS) and everything is announced
perfectly.
I confirmed just today with Freedom Scientific that JAWS 13 broke track
change recognition. It is partly fixed in the most recent build and is
supposed to be completely fixed with the next build.
Don't physicians have to take an oath, the Hippocratic Oath, that, at
least, they will do no harm?
I wish programmers took such an oath and were prohibited from releasing
any product with any new feature until it was verified that no damage was
done.
Continuing the analogy, when a physician cuts off the wrong leg he gets
sued. So, ...

New set of bugs? Lol, good one. That reminded me of a fellow colleague of
mine here at the district, an assistive technology specialist for a large
part of the state, recently switched over to the mac and told me to switch
over to the mac because with jaws, all people are doing is paying for bug
fixes.

Now that is nothing to do with anything, I just thought of his comment
when
Mr. Dave Carlson said something about bug fixes.

I'm glad to hear that no one has any more problems with JAWS, and that we
are all looking forward to the new set of bugs soon to be released with
version 14. Just can't wait.
