I'd take a very close at the specs, some of those really cheap E6540s don't have very good specs compared to what you can get.

For example I have a MQ4810 i7 quad core CPU, that one probably only has an i5 dual core CPU. I also have a full 1920x1080 high definition screen while that one may only have a 1360x768 screen, and so on.

I see a refurbished Dell Latitude E6540 on eBay for around $170. Would one trust buying such a thing?  That seems like a pretty good price for something that's quite recent.

I recently purchased a HP Envy 15" laptop.  It has a numeric number pad.
The issue is that it has no control key on the right side of the space

I think it boils down to brand preference, a keyboard you can ad later.  Some keyboards have the numpad as well as an insert/jaws key. I've got a U S B keyboard plugged into my desktop and using wireless keyboards on my laptops.

That was one of the factors that lead me to the Latitude E6540, its keyboard has a real physical numeric keypad that work perfectly with JAWS.

Yes, and the full keyboard will allow you to do jaws commands, using
the zero on the number pad as your jaws key.

My last two laptops were Dell. The last one died after only about 10
months. I’ve switched to a HP that I love. After doing lots of
shopping around I decided to go to HP’s site directly. I discovered
that I could pick the parts I wanted. As a result, I ended up with the
computer I was looking for.

Also, be sure the keyboard has the number pad so to be able to conduct
Jaws commands much easier.

I suggest something at the minimum with an application key, (keyboard)
8gb ram 512gb solid state drive i5 or similar processor.

Many brands to look at. Cosco store usually has good deals if you shop
