Using the Rebuild MBR function for any software such as Minitool Partition Wizard or Disk Genius, should not change the boot sequence in the BIOS.

I bet if that happens, then I would need Markus's help to possibly fix something in the Bios. Right now, I think it says the first boot device in the boot order is the DVD/CD Rom drive.

Here's what I get when I press Enter on "Rebuild Master Boot Record".

Create new Master Boot Record(MBR) for current selected disk
(HD2:WDCWDS500G2B0C-00PXH0(466GB)). Existing MBR will be replaced. Create MBR now?
Note: If there is a boot manager software installed on MBR, it will be destroyed.
Yes No

What shall I do next?

I have the full version of Minitool Partition Wizard, which has that same function, but when I tried that parameter, nothing changed.

Bill:

Annabelle may not need to use the Windows recovery disk option.

there is a program called "Disk Genius", which is very accessible with screen readers. In the program, there is a function, which will rebuild the MBR information for her system disk. Once that has been done, Annabelle should hopefully be able to boot her system, using the system disk thus, avoiding the hastle of reinstalling and reconfiguring all her software. the free version of the program can be downloaded from the download page at the following link:

Once the page is loaded, press JAWS/INSERT KE+F7, to open the JAWS list links function. tap the DOWN ARROW, a few times, and the 32 and 64 bit free versions of the software are there.

I do not know what the full limitations of the free version is but, I do know that the option to rebuild the MBR information for a drive, is not restricted because, I needed to use the function to rebuild the MBR for my system drive a couple of years ago.

Hi, Annabelle. Unfortunately, it will erase both programs and documents. Your programs can be installed again, and can probably be easily found on the Internet. But your data will most certainly need to be backed up before doing the recovery.

Hi Bill,

Annabelle had the rebooting problem before the Jaws problem.

I think her computer's MBR is messed up from an improper shutdown from a power loss.

Hi, Annabelle. I don't know why your machine is going into an endless cycle of restarts, but this sounds more serious than a JAWS repair or reinstall. You may need to do a Windows recovery using your Windows 10 CD. You may also need to take your machine into a store to see what is going on, since it is impossible to access your BIOS without sighted assistance.

I did that, but still nothing changed. What's even weirder is I have to have the Windows 10 CD in my CD Rom drive while restarting my machine, otherwise, if I don't, the machine seems to go into this endless cycle of restarts. Could it be something got messed up in the Bios when I pressed the reset button by accident when I meant to press the power button instead?

Hi again, Annabelle. One thing I forgot to say, because it is such a habit with me is this. If you haven't restarted your computer after the problem started happening, I would do so before doing anything else. This often clears up problems in Windows, JAWS, and other programs you may be running.

That's strange! The problem disappears in default directory mode, or whatever you said it is. So what shall I do next? Do I just recreate the custom profile I made of Eloquence?

Hi, Annabelle. I'm not sure how these things happen, but, as we use JAWS, sometimes files are overwritten, and sometimes they are overwritten incorrectly. One other thing you could try is the following.

Put JAWS temporarily into Default alternate user directory mode. This can be accomplished in the following way,

1. Press INSERT plus SPACE to enter layered commands.

2. Press the letter Z. JAWS will say,

Default alternate user directory mode

It will also unload any modifications you have made to the default settings in JAWS. Because of this, JAWS may begin speaking slower or with a different voice.

Now that JAWS is in Default alternate user directory mode, open one of the programs that was giving you trouble with the classic "Taskbar And Start Menu" Settings, and see if the trouble continues in this mode. If it does not keep happening, the problem was caused by something that was changed in the JAWS settings. If the problem continues in this mode, it is a problem occuring with JAWS, even in its default state.

Now, to exit Default alternate user directory mode,

1. Press INSERT plus SPACE to enter layered commands.

2. Press the letter Z. JAWS will say,

Default alternate user directory mode off.

If the problem was absent when Default alternate user directory mode was active, I would suggest a clean reinstall of JAWS, if the repair does not work.

Hi again, Annabelle. If it doesn't happen with NVDA or Narrator, I would be led to believe that it is a problem with the current version of JAWS, or that JAWS may need to be repaired as I previously suggested.

Hi, Annabelle. This doesn't sound exactly like any other Windows problem I've run into. Have you used another screen reader such as Narrator or NVDA to see if the problem occurs with those screen readers? It could be a JAWS problem that could be fixed by using the JAWS installer for your current version of JAWS to do a JAWS repair.

Hi, it's Annabelle.

I'm having trouble accessing the classic "Taskbar And Start Menu" settings in Windows 10. Every time I press enter on "Taskbar and Start Menu", I'm taken to the new version made in "Settings". Unfortunately that version is not easy to access with screenreaders like JAWS. I wish there was a way that I could access classic parameters made for earlier versions of Windows, as they are more suitable for the sight challenged. Specifically I'm trying to turn off the parameter to "Click on submenus when I pause on them", as it drives me mad! If someone could please make a registry key for me, I would kindly appreciate it! Thank you!
