Hi, Michelle. Please use the Voice Adjustment settings to create the profile before going to the Select Profile menu to make the new profile your default profile.
Thank you. Bill White billwhite92701@dslextreme.com

But there's a combo box with the voices to choose from: "eloquence factory, Eloquence, SAPI 5 or Realspeak solo voices". I Can't type anything. It doesn't give me an option to "create".
Thanks. Signed. Confused in Boston.

Hi, Michelle. Yes, you will be able to keep your Eloquence voices. The profile adjustments are under the Voices submenu, after pressing the JAWS key plus J to enter the JAWS Context Menu.

I have to tell you that I'm feeling quite stupid right now!! I'm usually not this dumb! I'm stuck on "creating your own profile". Where's that option? And will I be able to keep my eloquence voices? I'm so confused!!!

No, not this way. You either select or create a new profile that you wish to be your default profile. Set your choice of punctuation (none) there and complete the profile. Keep in mind that when creating a profile, you are prompted to give it a name.
If the punctuation setting doesn't appear to be working when you've completed that process, go to your profile options with control-JAWS key-s and arrow up or down through your available profiles.
I guarantee this method works.

I tried adjusting on all contexts. Nothing.

The only way to set default punctuation is to adjust it in your default profile. For some reason, in recent versions of JAWS, FS made punctuation setting ridiculously cumbersome.
The short description of how to create a profile is to open the JAWS context menu with insert-j, then press enter on options. Arrow down once to "voices."
Here, you have two choices, which you also select with the up or down arrow key and by pressing enter. One is for voice adjustment and the other for profiles. Actually, both involve profiles.
It's been a while since I've worked with this area of JAWS, and I'm in a rush right now. See if this is enough information to get you going. If not, please post again and I'll give more complete directions later if no one else has. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of Michelle Abadia Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2012 1:55 PM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. I didn't see any of that. How do you save it so that it's the default?
Thanks. Michelle

hmm did you save the change to the default configuration? Sometimes I change something that I want to happen globally, but I do it in a particular application by mistake.

Greetings all.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with win7, 64 bit and jaws 13. I don't like punctuation marks to be announced. I had it set to "none";
but jaws continued to announce them. I spoke to FS tech support, who
advised me to change it to "some". I did; and still most punctuation marks
get announced. Is this an unfixable bug in Jaws 13? Or is there a way around it?
Thanks very much in advance. Michelle abadia Michelle.abadia@verizon.net

uh, press PAGEDown or whatever you need to press to advance to the next page, and perform OCR again. repeat as necessary.
Convenient OCR is no substitute for an actual OCR application. It's a quick solution for times when you may not be able to access information, such as a pesky installation screen or short PDF document. It's not meant for book reading.
For that you'll want one of the blindness specific OCR packages like K1000 or Openbook, or an off-the-shelf OCR application like Omnipage, FineReader, etc.

Hi,
When using OCR in Jaws 13 and Windows XP, I often have a document with multiple pages. How can I get Jaws to read me the subsequent pages, after page one? Thanks.
